Tricks / Re: fake whip catch

It's easiest with wide axel diabolo and some really thick course twisted string.  If it's like the stuff that comes with bad traditional chinese yoyo then it's prolly the right stuff for it.  With the thicker kind you can just keep going and going with the fake whip.  I've gotten over 20 of them in a row.  It's mostly about the diabolo and string then after that it's the timing of when to whip.

Yes there is a specific diabolo competition.  It is a skill as well as an art so don't just cross out a whole aspect of diabolo because that just limits your visions of what is possible.

You can easily go to the WJF website and check out Jason's perspectives.

Tricks / Re: 3 DIA help <Video>

Shortening the string will not help.  Your left hand is not lifting the diabolo across and it's causing the second diabolo to come down into the middle of the pattern.  That was my problem when I was trying to learn 3 diabolos.  The first one will come back over the top because you unwrapped it with such force.  You can't really push the 2nd, 3rd etc... ones with as much force so you need the left hand to lift it up a bit to help it across.  If you want to learn a right hand dominant shuffle I'd still reccommend using your left hand to help.  And it's not about what style you want to learn but what works for you so just ignore all the synch, asynch talk and just focus on that left hand lifting the diabolo across.

I'll diabolo however the hell I want.  Diabolo is about fun, when that gets taken away then there's no point in diaboloing anymore.  Forget creativity, forget technicality.  It just needs to be fun, let people diabolo the way they want and if they want to diabolo that way then let them.  I'll diabolo how I like to.

I'm just spreading some wisdom...  I'm not hating and I can't say I needed 34 minutes to untie a knot or any of the other things you listed...

Matthew passed to far back and to try to catch it I walked back and tripped over risers that I didn't know were there.  I landed on my ass in front of my fellow students in my grade.  I didn't live it down for a long time.

General / Re: vertax-right handed but i use a left wrap
« on: April 17, 2008, 02:32:03 AM »
wrapping it with a left and right wrap doesn't change the way it tilts or spins.  all that is required to change the tilt is how much your right hand goes up and down and the angle it rubs the cups.  To change the way it spins for lefty/ right you can either use a capture instead or use the left hand instead.

Tricks / Re: 3 diabolo shuffle: help! (wrap start & asynch shuffle)
« on: April 15, 2008, 04:00:52 AM »
Your left hand isn't lifting the diabolos across.  Sometimes it gets the first one because of the force of the unwrap sometimes maybe even the second one because your flailing got lucky.  You need to see the diabolo come across and know the feeling of pushing the diabolo up and over.  It takes practice.

It's not wrong to use a left wrap, it's just easier to have it wrap up on you because the wrap is crossing every single second you tilt it into vertax which will cause it to wrap up on you.  It has no effect on vertax genocides because there is no wrap when you release on a genocide...  And when you unwrap with a left wrap, if you unwrap normally (unwrap below the diabolo), you'll end up with a "sun knot" which will force you to do a sun.  If you unwrap above it'll just be awkward...  It's not wrong it's just why make it more difficult on yourself.  It's like trying to use a harlequino instead of a regular sized diabolo like finesse or circus.
