Gear / Re: How many diabolos?
« on: September 23, 2013, 12:32:14 AM »
So I realised that is has been a long time since I posted on this thread, and boy has a lot changed!

Still my toy glow in the dark and my 3 small harlequins (oh the nostalgia)
Then 3 shining triple bearings
5 taibolo
5 blue epics
5 yellow epics
5 sundia suns
5 juggle dream
And 4 finesse - but I will hopefully be getting a 5th one soon

So that makes it 36 (excluding the finesse I want to get) which means I have just as many as the people that made the pyramid in diabology (right?) Sooooooooo... Yeah

I swear this has been there for ages, if it is the same price as a normal bearing glary I can see how it may appeal to some people

So I got 5 of these for free just the other day, I am going to add-on to the review once I come back from my juggling club but here it goes:

At first, I thought they were cheap KOs, this is when I first saw them at BJC, these were prototypes but they were close to the final thing, however now that I have more I completely changed my mind.

I know these look very much like Glarys on the pictures, but trust me, they feel so much different in real life. They are much more of a cross between a taibolo and a sundia sun. The cups are more like half-spheres, as are the hubs, the axle is a bit like a taibolo axle but more curved out. First off it looked like all the weight was going to be in the axle which is not a good thing however you can see they especially made the ends much fatter to add weight and make it much more well-weighted overall. The material does not feel cheap and importantly, they are just so beautiful. I cannot describe how much I love the look of these, whenever I see them I want to do diabolo which is a great feeling.

Here is a pic comparing the height of different diabolos:

As you can see it is shorter than a sundia sun however I do not feel it because of the axle being so well designed, the sundia axle makes it extremely heavy so to even it out they made the cups heavy as well, this makes the diabolos very heavy indeed, of course there are light versions of the suns and you can buy the light axle kit but it is very expensive, the Typhoons look much heavier than they actually are, they are lighter than taibolos overall but heavier on the axle (this is from judging it by hand.

I really liked what wis said:
Less innovative than Epics...? ok, maybe yes. Chinese cheap crap...? don't thinks so.

I know many people will say that I am just supporting them because they gave me the diabolos and stuff but I really tried to be as honest as I could. I cannot stress how much I thought they were KOs as well at first glanceas well as many otherpeople, but once I have them for some time they are really nice . Tricks feel smooth, I might add though that suns with 3D (when the diabolos are not sped up much)  sometimes feel like you are doing them with bearings, however this is only because the axle is new, once the diabolos spin fast they are really nice, I did a 4D sun on my 3rd try :D They look simple, however who said simplicity was bad? I personally like the fact that is is nice smooth curves and not elongated and shrunken down in other places.

Funny thing I might add, the diabolos came with 2 bumpers on the ends of both of the cups, the bumpers were made of a hard plastic and they were put there so that the cups do not become misshaped during transport, I personally never had problems with diabolos being ordered but this is definitely something that might be useful in overseas packages and it is a smart feature to add.

Tilt is a LOT more difficult - I still use the angle of the strings but my method isn't the best way. Priam said during the convention that he touches the cups when catching the diabolo. Although this is REALLY hard and even now, 4 out of 5 attempts don't work

I remember asking Dekel at the convention how he corrects 4D high when it comes to tilt and he said he does just this. It blew my mind to think you can do this with so many diabolos!

As a side note you do exactly the same thing in low, you mostly use the sticks to correct however you can do hub corrections as well, this is what makes Epic diabolos really good at 4D low, because when you don't want to hit the diabolo (in fear of slowing it down too much) you just make it land onto the string on a different hub (the one closer of farther away from you) At first I thought it did not work well but after trying it for a while I realised how useful it is!

Why is everyone asking to test it out if they are already for sale? I didn't hear Funty say anything about giving them away (or did he?)

I don't want to get too much into the argument but from the pics (and from real life) I can tell you that the diabolo looks much more like the clear sundia suns bit with a more taibolo-style axle, that's all I can say really.

I remember when you told me you were trying this, but it is cool to see it on video! I like how similar the trapeze is to the wrap, I mean the fact is that when I did that start it looked more like Guillaume and yours works like Folkert's, really nice progress as well, finally someone else who can show how 4D really isn't as hard as many people think !

I do not want to be rude, but why upload another video of the same show but in worse quality?
Also, going back to the last thread, Arjan quite rightly pointed out that it is a bit weird how you speed up the 2 diabolos really fast, then you put the 3rd one between your legs, speed the 2 again and only then go into 3, I see you are doing more and more shows so these small tips are really important to polish-up your routing and make it as good as possible!
Apart from that the show is pretty much the same as the one in Lublin so I don't think I can say anything that wasn't said before.

That aside, it is very good to see you getting some more 3D tricks! I hope you do well in Poland's got talent, remember the tips I gave you on Facebook!

Not to hate on dimensions, but Donald had Facebook so it is easier to ask him through that (although I do understand that dimensions may not have Facebook).

Talking about Facebook maybe we could ask some non-active diaboloists through that? There are many amazing diaboloists on Facebook who lost their passwords or are just inactive but are amazing nonetheless!

I guess the more the merrier right?
