i could swear that a 'big' sun used to just be called an osiris sun?
I thought that too... I think it's called an osiris sun on diabolotricks.com, and that's where I first came across it.

Scooby: What gap are you referring to? That kit doesn't produce a gap - at least not between the hubs and the axle. There's only a gap in the picture cause they're showing you what you get in the kit - and you don't get axle with it, you use the existing one. You get the hubs which just go in place of your normal hubs and a longer bolt to accomodate them.
Or am I misinterpreting you?

I'm New / Re: How do you speed up your diabolo?

why do all these accelerations use a wrap(well all the ones that normal people can do)
I would guess it's because that way there is more friction between the string and diabolo - so the movement of the string is more easily transferred to the diabolo. And also, in the case of chinese whips, it stops the diabolo flying off :)

I think we should keep this thread going as a place where people can upload short movies of new stuff or combos they have invented (or think they invented).
Yeah I agree, I think a "new stuff" thread would be really cool.

For what it's worth, JC, It's broken in Firefox as well. On the calatogue page only the handsticks link works.

General / I hate ceiling fans! what things have you broken doing Diab?
« on: February 19, 2006, 05:23:06 PM »
I seem to be becoming a frequent poster in this thread...
Decided to stop diaboloing and go back to my homework, threw it up for a simple whipcatch and... missed. Diabolo flies off and hits my mum's favourite mug, which shouldn't have been on my bedside table for it to hit, and promptly cracks it in half. It was quite spectacular:
Before (not really, I just put it back together):

There's also a good guide over here on diabolotricks.com - that's is the one I learned from.

Gear / Re: Your diabolos colors. Why did you choose them?
« on: February 04, 2006, 08:00:52 PM »
I now have 1 black Circus with white hubs, and one white one with black ones - you can see them in my avatar. I chose them cause... well, just look at them! They're awesome :D The only trouble is the white one gets very dirty when it rubs on the black one doing 2d...

I got my second diabolo about a week ago (having practised with 2 before then) and I've finally got my 2d shuffle going reasonably smoothly, although my corrections still need some work. Yesterday, though, I managed a 2d sun my first 2d trick! Yay! :D

Whoops! I just tripped the circuit breaker for our upstairs lights when my stick hit  my light doing infinite suicides. That's the 4th spotlight bulb I've broken doing diabolo, I think my mum's starting to get suspicious   :?

Has anyone got a (decent sized) source pic of the end of a white diabolo that I can fiddle with? Mine's black...

So what though? That just means that anyone who doesn't use/know how to use bittorrent is missing out, not that you shouldn't release it! I used it last time, and it worked perfectly :)

The diacopter appears to an interesting take on the one sided diabolo...

EDIT: I just watched "Diabolo bazooka". It's an clever contraption he has devised to help him do 2 and 3d... it launches diabolos in to the shuffle! Worth watching, though it doesn't appear to work too well  :D

That's cool. I like the effects you've put on the original. Dubious about the background though, might be better as a standalone for and avatar or something.
That and the DSSS guy thing (and Arjan's Stqatue of liberty 'shop) make me think there should be a general diabolo art/picture photoshop thread or competition thing.

I think that shows he is still pushing the boundaries of what can be done with 2 cups and an axle.
Or, as the case may be, 6 cups and 3 axles :)

WRT the video -  Wow. That was truly insane. And to think I'm just getting the hang of 2d  :P  I've got a fair way to go yet!

I don't know if the english people have a term for it, but when somethings over you always know what you should have done.

"Regret" is the closest I can come up with. But that usually applies to something you shouldn't have done...
