Tricks / Re: I just learnt to... (2006)

That exit's a nasty one to nail, espesh trying a duicide style stickswitch after the recapture to carry on with infinite suicide.  I managed it a few times at bristol last year but apart from that it's been a very elusive trick.

I don't think its anybodies idea of fun, but sayings its not worth 5 great convention days and a chance to enter the BYJOTY is obviously ridiculous!

Tricks / Re: S-Fan corrections, stability, tips?

No matter how hard I try to disprove it everyone else believes its all down to smoke and mirrors, I swear theres a knack to it though.

If we ever turn up at the same convention we should see who's more in control.  Start an s-fan and have someone to give a command and see who can muck it up fastest and keep it mucked up, then have another command given and see who can bring it back together fastest etc.  :D

Just a quick point mynci, the diabolo in an s-fan are never "gone".  They always come back unless somethings gone horribly wrong and you've got a triple sun twist around one diab

Just a quick comment on the whole diabolo weight distribution talk going on here.

I finished my A Level physics cwrk on the diabolo about 2 months ago now and one aspect I did briefly look at was at which point on the diabolo I should add mass.  It was only a very brief prelim investigation in this area and although weight added to near the centre of rotation does make a difference you'd need far more of it to make a noticable difference than if it was placed around the rim.  Having said this if it is placed at the rim the distribution needs to be absolutely perfect as the balance of the diabolo can be easily put out by any slight deviation whereas when placed toward the centre of rotation  any imperfections in the weight added make minimal difference to balance.  It would be far harder to produce accurate weights to mount on the rim than to add a larger amount of weight at the centre but then it comes down to personal preference, with a larger weight at the centre you would have a heavier diabolo which some people like although it would slow down faster due to increased friction with the string, if the weight was added at the edge you would have greatest impact on how long the angular momentum of the diabolo stays with least effect on amount of friction produced.

Did anybody ever see the Hades Diabolo?  Way, wya back when I was deciding what diabolo to get I was considering this one but everybodies advice and a smaller amoutn of cash convinced me to go Circus.  Hades would seem now like a brilliant idea if you're after extra weight at the edge because it had about a 1cm rim coming out of the edge, the principle behind this was as I've just been stating.

Lol, oops, well that was my "quick comment"  :)

O and btw, I got an A in my cwrk (just)  :D

I'm pretty sure I've seen a fair few people doing this trick, the one that stuck in my mind though was Vux on many occasions however I'll usually see him doing it around the neck rather than legs.

Cheesy tricks are perfect for being entered as trick of the week as far as I knew.  Think back to some of Luke Burrage's ;)

Performing / Sticks getting caught up sleeves during a performance
« on: January 05, 2006, 09:30:22 AM »
I had this problem when I had long sticks, I simply changed to the shorter ones....I still hold em half way up and they still get caught in long sleeves  :?  but I can't use long sticks anymore, I've tried a few times and they feel so cumbersome its a wonder anybody can diabolo with them lol

General / Lefty's!!!
« on: January 03, 2006, 04:43:37 PM »
Pete, as far as watching video's is concerned I always thought it was brilliant been left handed cause I could trrat it like watching myself in a mirror, I always thought righties would find it easier watching lefties, I guess it just depends what people are used to watching and copying, after a few years you'll have one type of image engrained into your mind.

And as for righties living on average 9 years longer than lefties, thats just cause of the high amount of lefty deaths caused by right handed tools such as chainsaws and circular saws, we're far more likely to die from using them so say the 2500 that do each year are around 40 years old thats gonna bring our average life span down loads.

Although I can't understand a word of it and don't have the motivation to find a way of going about translating it, I do see what you mean about the names Mr. Heartcote  :)

Gear / Quality problems with diabolo products
« on: November 20, 2005, 08:31:20 PM »
I got what I paid for when I went to lol.  Ordered 25m of yellow string (henry's, I checked by email first) and got sent 10m, 10m and 5m of green  :(  O well, it was nigh on half the price of 25m from Firetoys so I may as well use it up twice as fast and get some good stuff after.

I third that, great day, great people, great show.  Sorry I didn't get to stay behind after the show to tell all the people who took part how great their performances were but yeah, they were all fantastic...loved how you put your special ring to use, Norbi

Two diabolo gladiators can be really good fun, it was at the BJC earlier this year anyway, and a solid s-fan guided me to a nice little victory

Would be interesting to go into another 2 diab gladiators with more s-fans going on, i imagine it could get quite competitive then as its a far more mobile move than just a shuffle.

Tricks / Re: problems backwrapping every pass
« on: November 08, 2005, 07:29:08 PM »
Keep practising

I swear its been discussed before, but im too lazy to have a look for you, just try one backwrap speed up at a time at first, then work up to backwrap every other pass, then every pass...takes a while but keep practising and it becomes the easiest thing ever seeing as you'll be practising it throughout the entire time your doing two diab.

Very nice sequence there Tijn, always impressed with whatever you learn/come up with.  Love the crazy suicide at the beginning, is that a Jako influence by any chance?

Yeah I remember that, however I think seán_'s entrance for the trick is slightly different, same idea behind it though.

You so put that up in "I just learnt to" just so I'd ask about it  :P
