Okay, I inked the design, so how's this for a rough concept?

And I can change it to anything, different trick, pose, different idea altogether...  I'm open.  ;)

I made another one today!  ;D  I like this one a lot better, too.

I saw some literal diabolo art today when I was watching an old film noir movie from the fifties on TCM, Kiss Me Deadly.  Towards the end of the film, the detective walks through a hallway towards a room, and in the hall there are several paintings on the wall.  One was a very distinctive picture of about 7 or so women in dresses diaboloing.  Unfortunately I didn't see it for very long, and wasn't able to record it in time, so I'll have to wait until it comes around again to see the picture, but I'm 100% sure they were using diabolos or Chinese yo yos.

« on: July 25, 2008, 02:29:14 AM »
I'm not sure if your teeth are sore because of that, but maybe you just have a toothache or something.  I sometimes get this and my teeth will feel really sore, but they just get better over about a week or so.  I'm no dentist, so I'm not claiming to know the first thing about dental issues, though.

Myself, I find that my tongue rubs between my upper and lower molars when I concentrate on something really hard.  I'll come off of a practice session and realize my tongue has been all ripped up from the crushing force of my jaw.   :P (literally)  However, it really is just for a little while and is more of an annoyance than an actual injury.

And it isn't merely Panic at the Disco; it's Panic! at the Disco.  It doesn't even mean anything!  They have nothing to do with panicking OR discoing!   ::)

Anyway, this music question has taunted me for quite a while now, and I can't find that one perfect song to do my routine to, however, I have some options that I've been considering, so, here they are.  Maybe they'll suit your act more.

From fastest tempo, to slowest:

Riot on Broadway - The Living End
This one is an Australian punk song, that's fast, but not annoyingly so, like most punk rock songs are.

My Friend John - The Fratellis
From their new album, Here We Stand, my favorite song of theirs, and most probably my new song for my next video.

Richard III - Supergrass
Another great uptempo diabolo song, but very unique and different

Electioneering - Radiohead
I always diabolo to this song, as it's not too fast, not too slow, and is one of Radiohead's more upbeat songs.

Bodysnatchers - Radiohead
From Radiohead's new In Rainbows album.

2+2=5 - Radiohead
Possibly my favorite song ever.  I've been trying forever to get my routine to match this song.  It starts off slow and ominous, and then builds to a huge second half, which is best for all those fast 1D combos.  By the way, to truly experience the epicness of the second half of the song you have to get a direct digital copy, or buy their Hail to the Thief CD, the internet versions just don't cut it.  ;)

I found a few more clown jokes that had to be added to the collection.

How do you turn a clown into a dog?
Pour gas over it and light a match. Woof.

How do you turn a clown into a cat?
Freeze it solid, then run it through a bandsaw. Meeow.

What is red and has more brains than the clown you just shot?
The wall behind it.

What is blue and white and flies around the room at high speeds?
A clown with a punctured lung.

And three of my favorite baby ones:

What is blue and yellow and sits at the bottom of the pool?
Baby with slashed floaties.

What is red and yellow and floats at the top of the pool?
Floaties with a slashed baby.

What is the worst part about killing a baby?
Getting blood on your clown suit.

Would that be the BLC contest that just happened at the beginning of this month?  I was supposed to go because I was originally going to California for the 4th, but I ended up going to Vegas last minute instead.  :-\  Everybody I knew that went said they had a great time, though.

In Target!?!?  The store Target?  :o  Didn't the security guards say anything, or an employee try to stop you?

Other than that I have to admit some of you are pretty bold.  I'd never have the guts to try half of this stuff.  :P

You're right, we shouldn't be skinning gerbils, we should be practicing our suicides and genocides!   :P
Oh, and don't forget to show your friends your Chinese whip!

That there be some awfully small text!  I bet some can't even figure out how to read that.

I started a little while ago, because I mostly hang around yo-yoers.  I'm going to get an 888 soon, I think, but right now I just have a Velocity.  It's weird because they have all their own terms, and it all looks really complicated, but I guess diabolo is just as weird to a stranger.  And whenever I do diabolo they are always really amazed, and likewise I'm always astounded at what they can do with those little things.  :o

:o  Oh my gosh, that picture was one of the scariest and funniest things I've seen on this thread!  And the rainbow letters just add to the sheer horror of it!

I never even had a fear of clowns... until now!

yes   :)

Sorry, I didn't want to look at it long enough to figure it out.  I thought I might go blind.

Anyway, I just StumbledUpon this:

First upload it to the internet somewhere, be it Photobucket, Flikr, DeviantArt, your own website, etc.  Then, copy the URL, and paste it on your post.  And be sure to click the image button, or type in
Code: [Select]
[img][/img] around the picture.

I know the biggest thing I juggle is my time.  :P

I have to find room for

- school
- diabolo
- juggling
- drawing
- writing
- animating
- filmmaking

I'm hopeless.  ::) I can't even give up any of them, I love them all.  Except for school, of course, but that goes with the whole "gets me the job I want" which leads to my happiness in the future.

Is that sad if the diaboloing clown scared me more than the creepy carrot eating one?   :P

I guess the craziest would be in a wind storm, back when I was a semi-beginner, and I could barely even do a trick I had to correct it so much.  And when I'd throw it up it would fly some 30 feet behind me, and it was physically impossible for me to catch it again.

I've also diaboloed while driving a golf cart.  I couldn't do much, though.  Mostly I was just flicking my wrist trying to keep it spinning with one hand, as the other one was steering.  Also the whole, "no windshield" thing didn't help much, either.  Also, to anyone who wonders, of course I'm the legal age to drive one of those things. :shifty eyes:

Other than that, my neck of the woods doesn't have any real crazy locations (or any woods, for that matter).

I thought I'd try my hand at a diabolo drawing, so I decided to do a cartoon of me diaboling.  Unfortunately I don't think I look quite so cool and relaxed when actually diaboling, but hey.  :D

It took about three hours to make.  One to draw the original image on paper, and two to digitize it and color it, fix it in Photoshop, etc.

I might eventually change it into my avatar, but I still have some cleaning up to do on it, in the face and such, but I wanted to post a rough version anyway, to see what you guys think.

I seriously injured my right wrist after doing vertax with my carbon fiber sticks and Finesses for extended periods of time.  It didn't hurt too bad at the time, but after a few days, I could barely even rotate it without serious pain, and had to stop diaboling for over a week and a half.   :'(

I later found it out to be wrist tendonitis, which I guess is semi-common in sports such as tennis and bowling.  I realized I ignored the warning signs of wrist pain and continued diaboling.  I guess it has been a painful lesson well learned.  :-\

You might be able to eventually, but it would require a heck of a lot of energy and force to even get it spinning even a little bit.
