Tricks / Re: I just learnt to... (2006)
« on: June 30, 2006, 09:23:20 AM »
Was just messing around with a "loop and hook whip catch", and decided to take it up a notch.  I first landed it on doubled string, did, as you would call on regular string, a righthand wrap, hooked it on the sticks, threw it so it would go in an arch and head behind me (really it hardly does anything, but when spectators are watching, it makes the trick look even harder  ), and did a behind the back whip catch.

Performances / Cirque Du Soliel Diabolo Act
« on: June 30, 2006, 09:11:10 AM »
Actually, Cirque doesn't have that many diabolists.  Talking about Saltimbanco, it was first an acrobat named Mitchell Head, who is now working with Corteo.   Basically, he is an acrobat in the other acts, including the bungee, that picked up diabolo as a hobby, and they added him as a rotational act.  Now, he has been replaced with another Chinese man, which I don't know his name, with an act of one diabolo, that I'm sure gets a standing ovation every night from non-diabolists.
There are also two acts in other shows (La Nouba and Quidam), you could say are, 'cloned', but there are some minor differences.  Either way, there are always three Chinese girls, and they perform to music, passing two each other with traditional Chinese yo-yos with a holographic sticker plastered on front.

However, as with most non-diabolo familiar folk, it always gets a standing ovation.

Also, for their TV series, Solstrom, and their performance at the Logie Awards, they used two diabolists from EDIT: (Correct Name) Les 7 Doigts De La Main

Tricks / Re: Infinite suicides
« on: June 28, 2006, 09:27:59 AM »
I HATE INFINITE SUICIDES!!!!    I've tried inf. suicides with my G1 XTremes, first, the foam breaks off the bottom of the handle, glued it back on.  Next, I snap the plastic piece on my XTremes.  Now, I had to purchase new G3 XTremes (which I love, BTW), and I've already broken a piece of foam off of.  Now, I've had it, so I go back to wood, which the handles on those fall off on impact.   GRR, I'm not going to practice any more inf. suicides any time soon (aka, next week   ).

General / Mysterious (Unknown to me at least) diaboloist

And you can tell its an edited photo since its a .bmp, which are files that have been used in something like microsoft paint..

It wasn't Paint, it was Photoshop.  And the only reason I saved it as a BMP was to keep the file size down.

Oh, and don't forget about the bunny in the top diabolo.

WOW!!  That was amazing!  But, I think I'll stick with the old fasioned "Sticks" and diabolo for now.

General / Haters
« on: June 20, 2006, 11:22:20 PM »
Haters - We have pretty high ceilings in my house, but, as with a diabolo, that's not enough.  So, now, let's just say, I have to get on a ladder and paint the entire ceiling in our living room from black marks.    :(    I've also gotten diabolos banned from my school from knocking out a ceiling tile.

Ignorers:  Diabolos, to most people, are amazing for about fifteen minutes, then they just get boring, at least to the people not doing them.    Most of the time when I'm talking to friends and other stuff, I just do it and they pretty much completely ignore it, and just act like I'm not doing anything.

Videos / Diabolo Cam: The Sequel

Very creative idea!  :D

Just need to do an infinite suicide with the cam on the end of the stick!

General / "Why did I do that?"
« on: June 17, 2006, 11:51:41 PM »
What is the stupidest thing you've ever attempted while diaboling?

Mine would be probably trying to make a basket with the diabolo at a gym, and getting it tangled in the net.  They had to bring in a special crane type thing to get it down for me.

A close second would be doing a genocide, and when the stick swung around got caught in a cieling fan.

I'm New / Re: Introduce yourself
« on: June 17, 2006, 09:48:58 AM »
Name: Colin C.
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Age: 14

1. How many years have you diaboloed for? Had a diabolo since 11 yrs. old, just really started practicing for about a year.

2. What or who got you started? Bought my first one at Cirque du Soleil's Varekai.

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general? Showing off in front of others who have never seen the thing in their lives, and are absolutely amazed.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average? 1 hour, maybe two if I feel like it.

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo? Yes, I've preformed in front of most of my school.  But I'm hoping to join the Cirque one day!

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ? I have balls, rings, clubs, devil stick, and yo yos, and I love mixing props, like using diab. sticks as devil stick sticks, then turning around and doing diab.  Also using ring diabolo tricks, like in Diabolo A-Z book.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string? Finesses w/ light kit, XTreme sticks, Henry's yellow string

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best? 1, I like learning all of the variations of tricks, and get an amazing 1D routine before starting two, although I have ordered two.

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do? Genocides

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done? Vertax!

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)? INFINITE SUICIDES!!!  Already damaged my end caps from horrible wrap up!

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?  Mitchell Head, preformed in Cirque's Saltimbanco for 3 years, and now is with Corteo.  Plus, he's the only other diabolist I've ever met.  I guess diaboling just isn't a common thing where I live.

General / t-shirts (now with a proposed design)
« on: June 05, 2006, 09:22:54 AM »
A great place to make all sorts of cool products (shirts, notebooks, even teddy bears) is!  You can make, customize and sell over 80 different products (Maybe we could even ask them if they custom print on diabolos   ).

Gear / Re: Your diabolos colors. Why did you choose them?
« on: June 05, 2006, 08:31:38 AM »
Man, I wish I could just go to a store and buy them, but sadly, I have to order them off the internet.  I also live so far away from any juggling club or convention. :(   However, when I do show anyone, they are amazed, because they've never seen it before (especially when I pull of my inf. suicide/genocide combo! )

Anyway, I have 3 diabolos, A yellow/blue one I purchased in a Cirque du Soleil tent (*tear* my first diabolo), a "red" Higgins Brothers Element (it's really pinkish, grr), and an orange Finesse G2, with red light kit.  Also, I'm planning on buying a green diab, blue lights, and a red diab, blue lights, they would all look amazing at the same time!  :D
