i  cheated i put both diabolos on suns so whereever u move u dont lose the diabolos it is currently on 11784893    :D

Gah.. thought I was the only one that found that..haha. I don't consider it a record either, but just for fun:

I put a stop to it, though, so I guess someone else could overtake the cheating record if they want to..haha.

someone should make an rpg like tony hawk underground except different.

i think its a cool idea, but impractical, it would take forever to make, and i'm not sure if anyone could make a good one on their own, they'd take forever, and i don't think theres enough of an interest for a company to create and market one...but its a cool idea anyway (i'd love to be proven wrong about it)

Ha! You crazy cheaters caught me. Well done. The "sun" isn't really a sun, just a low throw, so the computer didn't realize what you were up to. I'll fix that loophole in the next version.

Jake's 6,000 point score is still the highest I've heard of!

Okay, here's a new version with THREE diabolos. It's really hard! I had to tweak the physics just to make it reasonable.
I'll be very interested to see what score you can get with 3.

Also changed a few other things, closed the "jake cheat" and changed the controls so that throws default to 2 for 2high and 3 for 3high.

Thanks, your comments really improved it, I think.

Sorry, making it bigger will take awhile. That's a huge task, since my program is full of magic numbers based on the original frame size.

Like we should have a person start out with harlequin and some crappy tricks then u practice and get better and compete in a very small competion to get money to buy better diabolos and what not. Practice till you get as good as the MFP and compete with them in the WJF competition. What do u think of my idea?

It would be great if there was a game like that... even better if there was a full 3D diabolo game, with all the tricks, tournaments, create a juggler, create a trick etc. :D.  But those would be way too much work for a few people to create... a whole company would probably spend years creating either of them :(.

It's made in Macromedia Flash.

If anyone else wants to try their hand at an RPG or a more detailed game, I'll be glad to share my code with you, sloppy as it is.

I might have a go at a simple RPG myself, where Sean would have to complete certain tasks to move from level to level. E-mail me if you have any ideas about what these tasks, levels might be. Example: Sean travels to France to meet Priam, but must first get his attention by doing a hard siteswap. Then Priam teaches him a trick. etc...
Or, while filming Smile, Sean has to do three tricks in a row in 30 seconds. etc...

Two-high is relatively simple to program, but other tricks would be very difficult, since the computer would have to keep track of the string's position, wraps, etc... Either that or the tricks would have to be painstakingly faked with animation.
It would really take some doing. Even adding the piroutte is going to be a chore.

Of course, a pro company would just set up a motioncapture session with Sean and then recreate him and all his tricks in polygons.

----

until then, the game is still at http://www.cecebell.com/chickenguy/manschew.html

and Pete has the current high score.

I got 15792 with the 40 siteswap.  But as Jonnyh said, not sure if holding down 4 is cheating ;)

And, just realised you can get a bigger version if you go straight to the swf file:

http://www.cecebell.com/chickenguy/manschew0-5.swf

(You can also save it from that URL)

Edit 24715 with the 60 siteswap :)

It doesn't sound like cheating. You're still having to move around to catch them right?
I messed with the error equation last night, perhaps I've made it too easy. I haven't had much time to actually play it.

I used Flash MX - but i imagine any flash would do.
i learned from a book called flash game design demystified.
also many good websites on flash actionscript.
helps if you already know c++, but you can start with flash and it's tutorials. it can be really frustrating at times. kind of like learning the #$%#@ fan.

by the way, current high score is 24,715 by James Isaac

I scored 44,754 using the 60 siteswap... then my eyes started hurting so i stopped :P

I have two ideas for the game:

1) You could add a php/MySQL high scores table... if you can do that much in flash then learning how to intergrate php and mysql shouldn't be too much work (I hope ;)).  It would be a lot better because scores would be added automatically, and people could see the top 100 or whatever scores instead of just the top 1.

2) You could extend the sky higher, because I often find myself throwing the diabolos out of the frame.  With the clone brush tool in Photoshop or something it would be pretty easy to make more sky.  But, would that mean you'd have to do a lot of recoding because lots of numbers are hardcoded to the current height?  Because if so, I understand why you don't raise the sky ;)
