WGM Summer Video 2013
« on: June 03, 2013, 04:55:21 PM »
Hey everyone-

Here is a video I made with my friend a few weeks ago. Its most of the tricks I've been working on for the past few months. I hope you all enjoy it!

Lovely collection of different things, some a bit wobbly, other crisp and clean. Some killer sequences, very progressive, and a whole lot of natural flow in your body and movement. I might be not so lazy and later on come with time marks for my favorites.

Really nice stuff.
- 0:40 (quite smoothly introduced considering the kind of trick)
- 1:20 very nice
- 2:10 the whole 2d sequence
- 2:37 this sequence uses some tweaks I play around with (like 2:41). The first 'pose' is very nice. Shame that you did not manage to film the end, it is quite cool

Thanks for the video, I would say it is exactly the kind of video I'd like to do, and I like to watch it as well. I don't like the music, but it suits so good that I can't even realize. I got a bit disappointed when I saw how far you live, hope to see more videos in a near future.

In response of Wis, about the time notes:

0:40 Yes, although I would have liked one angle to see all of it, looks sooo good.
1:20 Okay, I have mixed feelings with this. Can't explain. The whole beginning intro was beautiful until here for me.
1:26 How did you miss this Wis? It is such a lovely shot and the man does it with so much ease all the tricks FTW!
1:40 Not a fan of those stick arm flourish roll type things, as the string wraps or loops or twists so much with those sometimes. But well executed I must say.
1:54 To French for me. But that one throw up a little high with the arms twirling around yourself transitioning from one body/string position to the other was cool.
2:10 He Wis, we have met before, yes this 2 diabolo contact sequence is the only right thing to do, not a 4 low can come close to the action and diversity of happenings on screen.
As a side note I would have to say its a shame there was no full frontal shot, meant in a totally normal way. This diabolo-porn needed just that I think, but the side view was okay to.
2:37 Yes for the leg and the whole routine, that ending with the whip around the neck and diabolo, I love the nonchalance in that and when it works its like OMG this man is cool.
3:22 Confirms that once again.
3:30 Is to Chinese for my likes.
3:33 Is pure gold, everything.

So that. O and perfect use of music I'd say. Thanks for making this video and work! EJC?

Funny you should say that- that's the only trick in the sequence I didn't come up with (unless you count general stuff like mini-gens). Maybe that's why it seems like it might not fit? I couldn't find an ending for that sequence that I liked, my friend came up with that elbow catch thing and we left it at that. I do want to develop tricks like that more and see what happens.

As for seeing things in one take or full-frontal, I'll try and get a camera and film that stuff for you guys.

I wish I could come to EJC! But unfortunately I have to save all my money these next few months, I'm going to Quebec City for circus school next year and I will be on a student visa so I can't work the whole year. Any chance you guys might be at Turbofest?

Thanks for breaking it down for me you guys, I really appreciate it! It helps me to know what works, and should be developed more, and what I need to change.

I don't think that how I saw it, I was coming from a more practical point of view in weather that specific move would be realistic in a sense it would be repeatable easily.
Cause there clearly is a concept, and yes you should explore this to the fullest, please do! If you get this sort of stuff solid I have to see it live.

Awww, shame though, legit reason not to be at EJC, good for you going to circus school, please use this forum to keep us posted about your progress and such?

I have never been at Turbofest, and it is a whole lot of journey for me to get there, so not so much change I'll be there, would love to though.

Glad it is well received, it's you doing all the hard work m8, so as long as you are happy with it, others should be well happy with that.

Ah ok, I understand now. So maybe make it less of a trick shot (something lucky)? And yes, I hope one day I'll be able to show it live, I'd love to see you perform as well!

I'll keep you all updated, I need to get myself a camera to track my progress and keep record of my ideas.

Turbofest is really fun! but also really far away. Maybe when I get to Quebec I can try and get them to fly you out there to perform. Last year they brought in people from Chile and Italy.

Agreed, but I was trying to point out the tricks that for me where innovations. Next time I will try to get more delicate and point out the beautiful moves. Maybe posting from home rather than the office could help.
I will also point something I didn't like :) what is that super short release-bounce-catch at 1:58?

Good luck in your saving for the circus school mate!

Its one of those things that feels like it looks cool, but doesn't really. Would it be nicer if the stick didn't wobble at all?

Maybe, bt without releasing the stick, just tossing the diabolo would look a bit silly. I think what could make it cool is to do also something with the stick in your right hand. Alternatively tossing the diabolo a bit lower. All these aesthetic things are too subjective, but these are my cents
