Oddballs hinting at new diabolo product

I'll happily volunteer as well... I've never tried a Juggling Dream diabolo, but have on the other hand tried nearly every diabolo except for the famous Onionbolo (I have to try this in Funland, Samuli).

The onionbolos name is actually Master onion and you can see a photo of it on fdc2013.org then mod2012 contest or something similar. There's competition for real diabolo designs, no knokoffs allowed.

So if you really have a real new diabolo dedign, just bring it on.

I'd happily test it out! I have tired pretty much every diabolo and have all the "top" diabolos a home to compare with.

Hello All

How are we all on this fine evening? I was given three juggle dream typhoons at the EJC to review. I shall use the tusty gcse science experiment format.

Title
Is the typhoon by juggle dream a premium quality 5 inch diabolo?

Introduction
Me- 28 year old pro diaboloist based in the UK.

The diabolo! developed and produced by oddballs, Coming in slightly cheaper than other 5 inch diabolos does this diabolo have the design/ quality control needed to be a serious option for us diabolo nerd/geeks/legends, or is it a stepping stone diabolo?

Method
Pretty simple, I just started using them straight away for 1,2 and 3 [high] diabolos, I had previously been using a light sun in limited edition blue since the BJC. An absolute beauty of a diabolo.

Evaluation
As a fan of Asian diabolos [suns,tiabolos,flys epics so on.... Their was little to no getting used to period with this diabolo. It plays nice and smooth and is rather light [take that as a plus or a minus point, Id probably prefer abit more weight for a diabolo I use on stage but for training and general play lightness, for me, is a good thing]

It very much feels like a hybrid tiabolo/sun but if you were to give me one of these diabolos blindfolded I could tell it was a typhoon. It does have its own unique feel.

Did I like it? Would I Use It? Yes I did, and yes I would [probably more than a tiabolo and slightly less than my suns. Personal preference, nothing more.

Their is a slight lip/ridge of plastic round the end of the cup that i imagine could give you a scratch if you landed it on your arm, i haven't personally and i think this is pretty minor. maybe a wet and dry paper job if you were worried. Other than that, bolts have stayed tight and the cups seems hard wearing, no complaints

Conclusion, 
This is a premium diabolo. So Its a thumbs up from me

I suppose this diabolo is also as  "contentious" as a plastic toy can get.  My friend helped  develope this diabolo and other friends of mine think it borrows to much from other manufacturers designs, in regard to axel shape, I don't really see tiabolo as owning this axel shape as JC had it before them for his circus kits [as far as I know, not really interested in the details of this but if you are feel free to correct me] and their was a hourglass machined middle of a Mr B harlequin before that. That maybe is a topic that deserves its own thread if their isnt one already. ethics and evolution of diabolo design? but back to the review

This diabolo is great, do i want it to succeed? Yes! Why? so juggle dream make more diabolos in future with different designs and materials that push diabolo design forward and allow for the ever changeing nature of diabolo.  I think diabolo is still so small that anybody developing new diabolos should be encouraged as surly this will lead to better diabolos in the future and more people playing.

I touched Mark's at the EJC, it felt very good. The set of diabolo's obviously. Quality gear, which I should get my hands on really.

Well, I do not own any of them, but I tried them in the shop. There was a dude that got 3 for free for testing at the EJC, because he could do 3low (are you around in the forum ?) and he also liked them a lot. He was in the workshop from Alistair and Aloise.
I do not plan a full review so here my main thoughts.
- They are pretty good diabolos and lighter than what I expected
- The cups are much more gentle that those Taibolo type that can cut diamonds (I still remember the arm of Alexis... like if he had fought with a tiger)
- Be aware that the step between the hub and the axle is bigger than in a taibolo, but smaller than in a circus with giant or all-round hubs. I also mean bigger than what it looks like in Mark's pictures.
- I agree with the conclusions from Mark, and I would like to stress that the price is very competitive, and that I did not feel that it was close enough to other diabolos to say that it is a copy. Less innovative than Epics...? ok, maybe yes. Chinese cheap crap...? don't thinks so.

So I got 5 of these for free just the other day, I am going to add-on to the review once I come back from my juggling club but here it goes:

At first, I thought they were cheap KOs, this is when I first saw them at BJC, these were prototypes but they were close to the final thing, however now that I have more I completely changed my mind.

I know these look very much like Glarys on the pictures, but trust me, they feel so much different in real life. They are much more of a cross between a taibolo and a sundia sun. The cups are more like half-spheres, as are the hubs, the axle is a bit like a taibolo axle but more curved out. First off it looked like all the weight was going to be in the axle which is not a good thing however you can see they especially made the ends much fatter to add weight and make it much more well-weighted overall. The material does not feel cheap and importantly, they are just so beautiful. I cannot describe how much I love the look of these, whenever I see them I want to do diabolo which is a great feeling.

As you can see it is shorter than a sundia sun however I do not feel it because of the axle being so well designed, the sundia axle makes it extremely heavy so to even it out they made the cups heavy as well, this makes the diabolos very heavy indeed, of course there are light versions of the suns and you can buy the light axle kit but it is very expensive, the Typhoons look much heavier than they actually are, they are lighter than taibolos overall but heavier on the axle (this is from judging it by hand.

I know many people will say that I am just supporting them because they gave me the diabolos and stuff but I really tried to be as honest as I could. I cannot stress how much I thought they were KOs as well at first glanceas well as many otherpeople, but once I have them for some time they are really nice . Tricks feel smooth, I might add though that suns with 3D (when the diabolos are not sped up much)  sometimes feel like you are doing them with bearings, however this is only because the axle is new, once the diabolos spin fast they are really nice, I did a 4D sun on my 3rd try They look simple, however who said simplicity was bad? I personally like the fact that is is nice smooth curves and not elongated and shrunken down in other places.

Funny thing I might add, the diabolos came with 2 bumpers on the ends of both of the cups, the bumpers were made of a hard plastic and they were put there so that the cups do not become misshaped during transport, I personally never had problems with diabolos being ordered but this is definitely something that might be useful in overseas packages and it is a smart feature to add.
