Diabolo climbing the string! Help me!
« on: April 03, 2015, 11:20:59 AM »
Hello I'm new here! I'm also very new at diabolo, only got one this week.
I have some tricks down and I'm enjoying it a lot. My only problem is that when I try to get speed on my diabolo by looping it and whipping from side to side, 90% of the time the diabolo climbs up the left string and gets wrapped up. I can't tell what I'm doing wrong, or what I'm doing right when it works haha... Could it possibly have something to do with my timing? It's quite frustrating. A lot have people have told me that for beginner I don't really need the diabolo to go that fast anyway, but it's annoying me that I can't do it  :P  Please help meeeeee! Much appreciated guys  :-D

It's just the technique that's wrong, probably. If it's a right wrap, you put your right stick back and left stick forward a little. If it's a left wrap, you put your left stick back and right stick forward a little. It's just so that the string doesn't overlap around the axle and make the diabolo wrap up. You do it naturally when it becomes comfortable. Just make sure that if you have ALOT of speed to try to NOT have it wrapped ... that's just asking for trouble. I'd just try to keep the diabolo unwrapped as much as possible. Only when accelerating and tricks that actually require wraps and such should you keep a wrap.

It also depends on the size of the axle (the middle part), if the axle is too small, then the string catches on the diabolo really easily. This isn't a problem with any of the more expensive diabolos, but if it's one of the 15 dollar ones, like the Higgins Anti Gravity diabolo, that could be the reason.
