Gunn High school video! (boxes, diabolo, balls, clubs!)
« on: December 14, 2005, 08:26:58 PM »
well remember the pictures? probably not since no one really looked at that thread.

but here's the video which is more more fun!

it's in torrent form, and encoded in Xvid. yes, i realize that doing that probably cuts down on a lot of members still living in the stone age (or the Mac age..). the reason im doing this is because i am going to be receiving/editing footage from the Portland juggling festival which is going to be a lot of clips, and the best way to transfer a big file like that is bittorrent. in other words, this is my guinea pig.

if anyone wants to MPG it/rehost it, go for it. the video is nothing special, well it does have David on boxes, and Matt Hall on diabolo, and mr trick-of-the-week Chris too...

anyway the most important thing is feedback on the torrent; your speeds, any problems, etc etc. i dont care what you think of the video :P

http://bt.jvnv.net/torrents/gunn.avi.torrent -- PLEASE SEED WHEN YOU'RE DONE, as long as possible!

PS. listen to the music!!
PPS. the aspect ratio is a tiny bit off, use whatever program you are using to change it to 1.33....

edit: ok, it has been put on jugglethis. no longer will you have to be tortured with torrents... just go here: http://www.jugglethis.net/filemgmt/singlefile.php?lid=386

I really enjoyed that video Matt! Thanks for sharing, I didn't mind the torrent or XviD at all. The quality is neat, and the box tricks were awesome! That excalibur is really awesome as well. Keep it up guys!

And what do you always do? :P No just kidding, I always listen to music under videos, often people carefully select their music with a reason...

how do u download "torrent" videos?

I left click and i get a web page with crazy letters.  I right click and save as, I download for a sec and get 2.26 (around that) kb and it says open, open folder, cancel.  When i open it, there's nothing on windows media player....

mirror anyone?

yep. you, my friend, are on the ball  8)

J_J777 (and everyone else who cant figure out a torrent):

you're going to need a torrent client. it's a P2P program, but it works in a bit different way than things like Emule, Kazaa, or Limewire. don't worry about your mother swearing at you or the FBI knocking on your door, this is perfectly legal.

first, you need a bittorrent client. my favorite is ABC because it's easy and has a good interface.

if this is the only torrent you're going to use (OR you do not have a router or firewall) just open the torrent file in ABC and wait for it to finish.

if you are planning to keep using torrents (and yes, there are plenty of legal uses, for example AnimeSuki to download unlicensed anime) and/or you want faster speeds on your torrent, keep reading.

go into ABC, go to File-->Preferences. under the Network option, change the port to anything NOT BETWEEN 6881-6999. for example, mine is 49000 (the reason for this is that some ISPs blacklist the default range of 6881-6999).

then, go into your router settings or firewall settings. for your router, look in your manual. usually you go to your internet browser and type in 192.168.0.1 or something (check your router). then, find where it asks you to forward ports. put the port (or port range, for other programs) that you picked before, and put it in, set it to your address on the router (in XP, it's under control panel-->network connections--->and then double click on your network device). my local IP is 192.168.1.101, just as the example. then choose TCP (not UDP), and apply the settings.

yeah, all those words probably just spun your brain around huh? i can make a pictorial tutorial if anyone is really interested and just couldn't understand my directions...

cliffs' notes: download this, open the torrent in that program, wait till its done, watch the video.

::Speaks up for the mac crowd::

I have no trouble torrenting files, but I don't understand why people who post videos don't just use a more convenient method to host them. Mac users like me (please, no one give me complaints about my choice of computer. I'm tired of them) will have trouble with this, as there are very few decent, non-buggy bittorrent clients for mac. Plus I never feel like leaving an application running for a days to seed for other people. To those mac users trying anyway and having trouble, I recommend azureus.

But I'll just humbly request a direct link, and wait patiently.

Nathan, i agree with you completely. however, i do have my reasons. from the first post:

Quote
the reason im doing this is because i am going to be receiving/editing footage from the Portland juggling festival which is going to be a lot of clips, and the best way to transfer a big file like that is bittorrent. in other words, this is my guinea pig.

i dont know how big of files jugglethis.net allows, but when i edit/produce the Portland fest video that several users have requested, it might be too big for the site (again, i dont know the limits, so hey, it just might fit!). for that reason, and that reason only, is why i put this video as a torrent. for practicalities' sake, direct link is definitely the best (especially for a puny 25mb video like this one).

anyway, in the meantime you can click chris' temporary link in the post below yours.

david already submitted it to jugglethis.net anyway, it seems like my torrent experiment has failed, and the Portland juggling competition video will be nearly impossible to host unless i can find generous webhosting..

Nice video, I'm not going to stop people from helping to share the torrent but either some people have got very fast internet or don't know how to change their settings so they max out their connection here is some info http://www.p2pforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=6431

And here's to my first ever Torrent. I keep meaning to get onto this, but never really got the idea behind it.  But I have downloaded it and it works.  Matt Hall really is a bit of juggling goodness isn't he, awesome double vertax genocide and some other very notable things, and 5 clubs solid.  I wanna be him, with maybe more hair.  The box stuff was awesome too, always like to see more of that.  Hoped he would get the 7 box takeout.

So, how do I seed it?  Do I just keep the programme open or do I have to do something, I'm not entirely sure how it works.  Especially ABC seems to have it's text not fit entirely on the box.  Anyway, I'll try and support as much as I can.

To seed it just make sure you leave that task turned on it should say uploading somewhere depending on what client you using.

Chiok: thanks for giving effort :)

anywho, this is what it should look like. green torrents mean you're full connectable, and well, it says seeding! (the pic is too wide for the page, just click the link)

I couldn't be bothered to read the other posts... but great video! (I'm a big torrent fan myself) so thanks for sharing. I was the 4th one to grab it and left it seeding for a while, unfortunatly I can only seed at about 10kb right now... but every little counts ;)

I just downloaded ABC http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/ 4meg

then I downloaded the excellant Gunn video by copying the link in the first post, going to file->add torrent->from url pasting in the link, selecting where i wanted the video saved, download good and quick.

I then watched the video aand enjoyed it, I'm leaving ABC running untill I turn of my computer later tonight thus helping anyone else who is looking to download this way. I didnt have to do anything other than leave ABC running.

Nice video Matt_, very enjoyable, great editing, good tricks, good variety and a feel for what the day was like.

I never really realize how cynical my posts are until I read them the next day...

Sorry for just skimming over your post. I just saw "torrent", got annoyed and clicked reply and went at it. Good luck with torrenting giant juggling videos. If that's the only way to get them, then I'll torrent and seed with the best of them.

That was a very good video. Very good. In addition to matt hall being awesome, you clearly have a strong juggling group, with a good mix of talent. I really liked how you didn't drown out everything with the music, so the voices still came through talking about their tricks. great excalibur!

What was the music?
