MB Energy Luminous LED handsticks - available now
« on: May 10, 2007, 05:23:39 PM »
Any reviews?  I just noticed that Higgins Brothers have them on their website http://www.higginsbrothers.com/diaboloacc.htm at $45 each.  Any opinions on whether this is worth it?  Looks like colours are limited to red, green, and blue.  I will probably have to get a set and will post a review after using them.  They are rechargeable with MB charger kit, according to the write-up.

I don't know anyone who has them but Olobaid's handsticks are probably better. Those things look massive! -more like lightsabers than diabolo handsticks.

I love the feel of mini-G's with Energy's. Especially wrapped.

ok, at first i did not want to make my opinion public - but Mr.B is telling lies - in the product description is mentioned that they are the first with led sticks on the market... this is obviously wrong(im wondering if they didn't even researched on the web) and well, this is not the nice way :P !

the luminous sticks(MB) wheigh 75g per stick and in the product description is a warning that they are breakable, they also have a strange fat part on the grip end where the batts are placed (firetoys got nice pics)...
the good thing about them is that the are rechargeable.

for me it looks like the work of a designer, not of a diabolist imho...

Aren't you thinking of the glow in the dark Energy sticks?

They do look beastly, probably more for show than for go.  I think you're safe with the LED handstick market Olobaid, yours are obviously better.  You'll probably have to buy a separate charger and splitter to recharge them though!

I don't like the big part with the battery and LED on the end....might screw up the weight and break easy. I think me and Steve are going to get some of Olobaid's sticks.

Hey Olobaid, how are your sticks in flexibility? I might buy some if they arent flexible, I hate flexible sticks. Oh yeah, are they durable too?

I received my pair yesterday, I haven't had a change to play with them in the dark much so i'll just do a mini review. I might try and get some photos next week.

Pros
They look good in the dark
They are rechargeable
The turning on mechanism is quite cool, no accidental turn offs
MB sell spare parts for them in case they break

Cons
Very very very heavy, I can barely do a standard suicide with them, let alone genocides and infinites
The LED pod is thicker than the rest of the stick, so there's a big bulge at the bottom

Flexible - Some people like flexible sticks, I don't. They also feel like they may break if used too aggressively, the instructions even say don't drop them
Good string tying mechanism (same as other energy sticks)

Summary

Look good, play bad. They're great for on-stage glo routines and night street shows but you are limited to what tricks you can do (stick releases). These would never be your only sticks, and you certainly wouldn't want to practice with them. I haven't tried olobaid's sticks so sadly I can't compare them.

Haha - I love you Mark

I haven't tried olobaid's sticks so sadly I can't compare them.

I've tried both - the MB are plain awful - Peters are wonders to behold - my thoughts here http://diabolo.ca/forum/index.php?topic=1379.msg36422#msg36422

My version of MB's sticks here (without the weight & bulk - but still the fragile flex)
