I'm sure I remember seeing an old video of a happy singing old Chinese guy doing diabolo tricks with a saucepan lid. Maybe it'll turn up on one of those VHS tapes I've just been given.....

Are you guys talking about diaboloing with these things, or just using them for grind tricks?
'Cause a saucepan lid and wine glass don't look like very good diabolo-esque things

I've done diabolo with a saucepan lid before, Not sure why but I could do it :S

Seems rather pointless except maybe for a performance?

A bit of diabolo saucepan lid action has shown up on JTV. It's not the one I was talking about though.

Wow, that was an interesting video.
Although, my saucepan lid has a handle instead of a little knob thing...

I think that 4 person passing pattern just before the brief 3-low run was the most gorgeous looking passing pattern I've seen in a long time.

On Topic - The sauce-pan lid seemed to play exactly like a single-cup. It has possibilities.

It's like a spinning top -but bigger!

Off topic: Oh wow the couple of OTT of 3 low was pretty special. I thought it was a 90's thing!

offtopic: Self starting it is a 90's thing, though you can hardly call it a common thing before that.

People might also like to search for a clip of another Chinese troupe (Nanking/Nanjing) where one girl is fed 2 diabolos to go into 3 up with a piro and then is fed a fourth to go into a 4 up piro. (have a search for posts on Chinese style diaboloing) :/offtopic

If you can still find any of Brendan Brolly's diabolo books one has a section about using one sided diabolos, saucepan lids and vases.
I'll see if I can find my old copies

You ought to check out more Chinese/Taiwanese group performers, as that's quite a common type of passing done with those types of groups ;).
Usually they consist of 4 people passing a varying number of diabolos very quickly and in some sort of lateral or crossing pattern, it's really cool.

OT (still :( ) that second video is actually only a 3 up double skip and a solid run of 4 high, cant remember where I saw/heard about the 4 up piro, will keep looking

edit might be confusing myself with Lukes comments
Quote
...She did it slightly different from in the video though. Instead of skipping before she starts catching and running 4 she ran 3, did a pirouette under 3 high and as she was pirouetting the forth was thrown in. She ran it for about 9 or 10 catches, then threw 2 out, did a pirouette under 2 and ran 2 again.

The saucepan lid is also similar to jochen schell's gyroscope act
