vertax catches
« on: October 18, 2007, 04:09:58 PM »
recently my new flys came and im loving them!
theyve opened up a whole new range of vertax tricks and this has presented a problem, catching.
how do you catch a diabolo that is in vertax?
i have more success with whip catching rather than just a normal catch!

i can't catch in vertex either! i think im just going to whip catch instead, and it looks better.

Just quickly do a wrap around the diabolo while its in the air.
At least thats what I do.

It's essentially just a two-handed whip catch, where the whip-like motion is getting the diabolo caught on the string and pulling back in a whip-like motion.

depends what trick your doing

if you want to practice "normal" catches, unwrap with right stick, throw diabolo backwards over your left shoulder then spin and catch beside your right stick

don't rush it slower looks more graceful
do it, do it ,do it, DO IT!

I do what would be classified as a darkside catch and swap sticks or a cool Mknot.
Great for passing.

what u basicly do is u put the string on the diabolo and let it spin it's way back to the wrap..
it takes some time to learn and perfect but it's the best way to catch it on excalibur..
Absolutely NOTHING Here.

I believe the general ways of catching a diabolo that is thrown or passed in vertax is to get the string behind the diabolo as it's coming towards you and then turn so the diabolo makes contact with the string and it's on essentially open string from your perspective.

Or the simple whip catch as most have said.  Another is to catch it with the string in front of the diabolo (i.e. between the diabolo and your face) so you catch it front-on.  This is essentially the darkside of the string so you'll need to either do an inverse trapeze to bring it back to open string, or just switch the handsticks around as you're turning.  If you're feeling confident, could just genocide catch the diabolo too.

These are the ways I know of, though I'm not particularly good with either.

i try to spin when i do it; i get the string behind the diabolo, and then step away while swinging. the resulting circular forces keep the diabolo on the string pretty well.
