New way into vertax (orbiting)
« on: October 29, 2007, 12:24:05 AM »
Me and my friend were trying to go into vertax, and we were having trouble using the normal way. Then we tried going in vertax using the orbit accelerator, and it works pretty well. I was wondering are there and pros, cons??

Well one disadvantage is when you actually get to the vertax position you are going to start using snap method to keep it there/ do pretty much anything standard trick wise. betting used to entering 'normally' kind of gives you a head start on the feel for this.

Just a heads up for this thread, it would be appreciated if chatter about why BVB231 and his friends are having trouble and rectifying that could be kept to the usual vertax thread, thankyou.

Yeah, with the orbit acceleration eventually you get hit in the head!

Otherwise there isn't much of a difference. I've seen plenty of people who like to start tilting with orbit accelerations and then switch to Chinese whips.

I hate this method, My natural sun tends to leave the diabolo under my arms and my natural entry to a wrap from that sun makes me dominant frontwrapped, which is not the easiest thing for me to deal with when the diabolo is up and flat.  :(

However  ahkicaliber(sp?) inverted vertax stuff Ryo likes happens pretty easily :)

for me the pos was that i got more speed for the same time accelerating and i could enter a head monorail by accident.

the neg is that if i do the orbit with too much left hand then i have to duck pretty sharpish. also, correcting it to stay in vertax i found to be a whole different ball game to snaps

the gen of it is that i learnt with snaps and its hard for me to break a habbit. i still do but only when i'm bored.

Me and my friend were just trying to be stupid, so were trying to learn a "Anti-Vertax" Where the side your powering is up, and the side your not powering is down.

Wait, by an 'orbit' entry, do you mean the 'Gyro Excalibur Entry' (Youtube search that  ;)  )

I couldn't find anything on that. A link to the video?

No problem: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CTwGodTuvOk
Looks nice, and it's meant to be a 'beginners' entry to the Excalibur/Vertax.

Just so people know, the link is to a youtube video showing a stylized entry into a Vertax.
Enjoy.  :)

I highly doubt Nev would consider that a "beginners" entry ;)

Eh? Who's 'Nev'?

I heard it was a beginning entry from a friend, not really my personal opinion - I've not tried this entry yet.

Are you talking about the Mach 5 entry? I wouldn't say that is a basic trick.

Isn't a gyro entry into vertax done by doing a gyro stick grind and then catching the diabolo while going to vertax?
Whereas an orbit entry is doing some sort of orbit trick while tilting the diabolo until it eventually gets into vertax?

well there is a way like this that diabolostore showed me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OeSWDlT6Dg
at 3:40 or so.
i think it was in the other video someone posted recently with all the old chinese folks.

its started with a single twist (i.e. what you'd get from a backside), i don't remember exactly which way. from that, the motion is similar to a right sun, but progressively raised into the vertax position. its odd in its way because the diabolo is on the 'outside' of the string, i.e. your string is always between you and the diabolo so you won't hit yourself in the face. there's some interesting stuff you can do with it =D
