Which String for Fire-Diabolo?
« on: November 26, 2007, 02:57:16 PM »
Yo, guys (and girls)!

Last Time i bought myself a Fire-Diab. And i bought some Kevlar-String too.
I´ve haddn´t played it with fire yet, but tried it out in my room.

But i have one problem: The Kevlar-String is gettin´ pretty fast wrap-up´s.

My question is: Can i use the regular Henry´s yellow string for my Fire-Diab too?
Or maybe somebody has some suggestions. (Chiok?)

Hey, and by the Way: i found out, how to hold 2D in Vertax (only for a short time, but it works!!)

Here we go (Righties): Put ur 2nd Diab. between ur legs; Go into Vertax; Make a left Stopover; Put both Handsticks into ur left Hand and turn around with the Diabolo; By turning around - grab the 2nd Diab (with ur right Hand!) and wrap it from the top into the string to the right Side of the first one (it´s like a Frontwrap playin´ normal 2D). Then accelerate it with ur Hand (very important!!!), keep turnin to the right and keep accelerating the wrapped Diab as usual.

Check it out.  ;)

So i hope u can help me with my "String-Thing"

Thanx

Mathias P.

i think that you have to have kevlar string
in a thread about renewing string people said that u can put a lighter to it to get some of the fuzz out
but the heat weakens the string to were it breaks a couple of days after that
so i think that it would work but only for a bit then it would snap
sooo just buy some more kevlar string

I don't know for sure, but i imagine the nylon stuff would melt. I have a firefly and it gets pretty dam hot in just a few minutes of use. Alternatively you could do loop instead which involves less wrapping (generally) and still looks pretty cool. Still need the kevlar string though.
Or you could just not do wraps...

you could try getting some of that gell that lasts like 3 hours when alight and rub it on your henry's string
Its hard peeing in the dark becuase you dont know if it went in the toilet

Just use cheap string, henrys is too good to waste on fire diabolos. The trick is to keep the diabolo moving ie: throws, orbits, don't stop it on the string or it will melt and break. My friend had the same problem with the kevlar string, so he just started using cheap string and hasn't had many dramas yet (besides it breaking). When he does shows, he keeps spare sticks aside incase they snap.

What do you mean by this? I don´t know this. Do you mean some kind of flaming-paste that Stuntmen use for their Flame Numbers, like the "living flare"?

My local store suggested me to make the string wet, but she´s not really experienced in that kind of stuff and i don´t think too, that this would be a such great idea.

I had a lot of experience with a wet String and my Henry´s Diabs. Öööööööörrrm....... -No comment-(in other Words: wrap up´s all the time).

Kevlar string is really the only thing you can use.  The nylon of Henrys string will just melt to the axle and you'll end up with a yo-yo on fire.  In my experience, kevlar string works fine for the limited amount of stuff you can do on fire.  It's more technique based to prevent wrap-ups by ensuring you keep the wrap loose when you're not moving so you only add speed and never take away, which is general technique you should always use.

The best thing I've ever achieved with a fire diabolo (never used two) is after you've just filled up the wicks, get it up to speed as quick as possible and the burn-off you get is quite nifty.  Unfortunately you will have to live with string breakages and wraps, wetting the string is only useful until the string starts to dry out and becomes even grippier.

Thanks for the question though!

you can try to go to your local diy-shop and buy a different, less thick kevlar string! somebody on this forum told it once, and it worked quite good!

Arabian cord. Only 30c per metre and won't burn. Only gets dirty.
