Stage Performance in Oberhausen (GER 03.04.08)
« on: April 06, 2008, 12:46:40 PM »
This is my Diabolo stage performance, I did in Oberhausen (GER) on the 3rd April 08.

[youtube=425,350]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PPaeZpARDgs&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PPaeZpARDgs&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Hope to get some critical advices to improve myself entertaining the audience on stage more.

The music transitions were a bit odd but apart from that, nice performance

I thought it was pretty good. I think maybe you need to interact with the crowd more, give them a glance, pause for a second or get them involved somehow so they know what you're about to do is hard. But yeah, I thought it was very well put together.

Keep it up,

I found it quite slow and repetitive - especially the 1d.  Try to vary your tricks more, but other than that, it was a nice performance.

It was a good performance but there are a few things you could work in

1. don't accelerate so much
2. crowd pleasers
3. Use the space
4. Interact with the crowd
5. Rape!

All in all nice performance

Okay I will try to place the Diabolo somewhere else the next time, but in my opinion it's the most comfortable way to handle three Diabolos.

To put it in my mouth isn't that nice either, is it?

Any suggestions, where to put my Diabolo???

hello  ;D

firstly nice skills dude.

secondly I really dont think you gave the audiance much of a "show". unless you doing renegade I do appreciate a coherent theme which ties everything together, it avoids bwoadd syndrome [bloke wandering on and diaboloing]

the major symptom of a crowd with bwoadd is boredom. the theme doesn't have to be high concept, it can be as simple as everything being high energy/ music/tricks/movement.

anywho keep performing

You've got the skills that you showed pretty solid which is good, but it did seem like more of a trick showcase than a performance (as Mark describes).

Focus on all the other things to do with the performance other than the diabolo.  So that's things like, costume, stage presence, your entrance and exit from the stage, pause moments (utterly crucial in dictating the pace of a performance and what the audience should appluad for) and movement.

Move around the stage to create more visual impact.  Try and enter and exit the stage from the wings (if it has wings) for a more professional attitude.  And maintain some seriousness at the start of your routine to show that you care about the performance and you want the audience to care.

Trickwise, I think it was fine.  Apart from not stopping for applause after the 1D genocide (just catch the geno and hold it, don't go straight back into orbits) and the 2D armstall suns when at the musical break.  Also, you spent a while accelerating for the sprinkler, but it was too brief to notice, really hold the sprinkler if you can so people can see what's going on.  Audiences love the sprinkler.

A good start, you've got the necessary skills which is the hard part, the rest of the stuff may come much easier if you want to perform.

Okay, I will try to remember all these things.
I'm going to work on a new routine for late October and I'm going to care more about my stage-character and the presenting of my routine.

Do you think that a contrast between two musik pieces is a bad or a good thing?
(The contrast I have in my next routine won't be that big as now.)

hey dude you've got some good skills but as others have said it wasn't really a performance.

i know how annoying it is how everyone loves a high throw or a string climb more than any rediculously hard combo but it is what they like and the show is for them. put them in.

its quite boring watching someone accelerate alot, if you do need to accelerate often (i suggest you kick the habit and practice accelerating as little and infrequently as possible) accelerate using lots of different methods, wrapped orbits to start but then orbits, snaps, infinite suicide. keep it varied and as little acceleration as possible.

i'd say go for combos abit more, finish in a big exciting trick and then present, make contact with the audience. Part of what makes the sharpes act so good is that when they've done an amazing trick they will present, let you know it was a really great trick and give you time to appreciate it and applaud. Like with you 3D, its good but you need to make out like its a REALLY big deal. they will be alot more impressed. Hold the diabolo up in the air to be like"look 3 diabolos this is really amazing stuff".

I hope that feedback is helpful. your performance was pretty good and you've got the skills to make it really good. keep it up.
