Butterflies are attracted to diabolos?
« on: April 12, 2008, 05:15:37 AM »
I know its a bit random, but has anyone else found that butterflies are attracted to diabolos, especially white ones? There a few times where i have been diaboloing and butterflys have come and followed my diabolo around.
Say Whaaaat?

No, diabolo's do really attract butterflies, at least in my experience. Especially the white ones.

Offtopic: Once a bee sort of animal flew into a diabolo's cup while I was doing 3 high. It got stuck and the zooming sound it made got higher and higher due to the diabolo speeding up I think. Until the point the sound completly stopped, I stopped my pattern, looked into the cup and the bee flew away again...

Yes could be the doppler effect or the bee getting more and more stressed.

I think certain insects are attracted to the brightness of the colour and the texture of the material.

I love this! I'm going to collect some butterflies next time I'm out.

Beni, the Doppler effect is about receeding or advancing sound sources; I'm not sure it would apply here but I can't really tell from Arjan's description where the bee was. It's cute though.

Never noticed butterflies, but I did have a hedgehog following me around for a whole summer when I practiced on a field. Pretty funny but dunno why it did (never gave it any food).

I've got this picture in my head of a hedgehog either looking just like the fonz or maybe more like the hoffmeister bear.

I think diabolos also attract puppies. Kinda of annoying when ur doing suicides. They just sit there looking at you, and no matter what u do they wont go away. But. I came up with an ingenius puppy advoidance system. A trampoline!

Keeping on topic, I haven't noticed the butterflies.

How do you even notice mosquitos? they're so small.

lol jeez, as butterflies see things in UV you should get those invisible pens with the UV sensitive and write on it 'butterflies be warned' or something

but it may be a bit challenging for the butterflies to read the text when the diabolo is in motion. otherwise good idea!  ;)

Are there preferences which diabolo color they like the most? I can imagine that glow diabolos work best.

OT: Yesterday I hit a big bumblebee out of the air (unintentionally) while juggling 3c. dunno if it felt attracted to my clubs, but it got hit by a tight thrown double!
I put it in some rhododendron blooms to regenerate it's powers...  :-[
Juggling! Because everything else requires only one ball.
