And that's going to be 1 more guest.

Web site - http://www.supiainen.com/fdc/

General info

Confirming some details which Niclas already said. The dates are correct
and the information about Donald Grant is right as well. Some more info
about the place though.

We are working with the schedule so it's not ready until all the small stuff
is confirmed.

Convention place & stuff

Convention is held a gain in Eräjärvi due to it's quiet, peace and cheap
spaces. There is a one shop, one restaurant and the convention place.
Also a lake with the sauna. Sleeping happens in a school so bring your
own sleeping bags with you. There's a small gym where the workshops
and some shows happen. Also a small kitchen for making your food.
Last year we served breakfast which might be the case for this year as well.

Bear in mind that this is a small convention which is concentrated on diabolo
juggling. So almost everything is about diabolo. There will be again the diabolothon
sports championships. Only one of the five winners might not be coming this year
(which is Tempei), so you get to challenge the rest four. ;)

Here's some things that might bother your mind about getting to convention place.

Connections (Airplane, ferry, trains, our car)

So Eräjärvi is a really small village 30minute drive to east from Tampere.
Tampere has airport (Ryanair) so you can fly there and take a train
to closer. More advisable is to contact the organizer so we can come
and get you from the airport or Tampere.

People coming from west with the ferry over the sea (probably Sweden)
should go to Turku first. And from there on with train to Tampere. Same
with the foreigners who are coming first to Helsinki. Eighter by ferry or
airplane. From Helsinki catch the train or bus to Tampere.

Once in Tampere it is fairly easy for us to come and get you by car. Or
you can take a train to Orivesi which is a bigger town close by Eräjärvi.
All the finnish diabolo men & women are going there. And taking a lift
to Eräjärvi.

If your arriving to any city in Finland, there might be a chance that some
body from there is coming to convention. So it's much more easier to travel
with locals or get a lift. If you're coming please contact us, we might be able
to make things easier for you once you're here.

Awesome! I'm spending the summer in Vancouver, but I should make it back in time for this convention. I'll definitely be there.

Flights arriving thursday night and coming back monday night total £89 including taxes.  A flight coming back Sunday eve sets you back an extra £60 which is a shame. Definitely considering going but there's way too much else going on this summer to prioritise.

EDIT*  Got the price wrong.
Rennes July 10-17th 2011!

Price depends of course where you are coming (no bunny, sherlock) - there is flights to Tampere from London, Dublin, Frankfurt-Hahn, Riga, Milano(Bergamo) and Bremen.. if its cheaper to come and leave other days we can surely accomodate some people to Tampere..

Eräjärvi isnt "small town" its absolutely middle of nowhere. ;)

Just a reminder. If you preregister before 14.7.08 you will get the badge for
50euros. After that it's 65euros from the door.

If you're interested please do come. It will be diabolo convention like you've
never seen before. Just diabolo. And if you are coming outside of Finland, send
me email or pm. I can arrange you a lift when you get in country.

As next FDC is happening soon (which I believe it's coming to be super) here are videos of how the convention was last year.
I bet it's coming to be much better this year.

More space, more suprises, more organizers, more everything.

Well, seeing as no-one has posted a review of this one yet, I ought to let you all know what you missed.

I arrived at about midnight on the Thursday, and Samuli very kindly came and picked me up from the airport.  A few beers and a bit of a blah blah, then off to bed cos tomorrow.......

Up at about 7.00, we leave Helsinki and head off into the wilderness.  They're not kidding when they say the convention is "in the countryside".  A small village with about 900 people, but it has everything you need: a shop, a restaurant, a rock museum (!) and of course, the convention site.

Plenty of space, with the school, the neighbouring hall and a big top this year, all on the same site, with a big kitchen and cafeteria too.

Diabolo wise, there was more than enough to keep everyone busy.  The seven (yes, seven!) workshops were all well attended and full of stuff to inspire and confuse.  Highlights for me included Marko's "4 corners vertax" workshop (with myself and Langerz looking like a couple of goons chasing our tails) and Langerz slack workshop melting everyone's brains!

Show-wise there was a works in progress demo on Friday, a best trick jam on Saturday and of course a big old gala show (also attended by the public) on Sunday.  Loads of new and creative stuff going on in all of them ( the kid doing a 2-D walrus of time was a highlight for me!)

Of course, there was also the Diabolothon on the Sunday with it's fine balance between serious olympian spirit and all-out nonsense.  I sensibly sat out the 400m vertax, but it has to be seen to be believed.  Diabolo golf was a big hit and Langerz and I went for another "round" while the longest grind contest went on.....and on.....and on......  Samuli pushed it over the 20 minute mark and only dropped when he tried to walk all the way back to the site with it still going!

Loads of other highlights:  all-night Guitar Hero sessions on the big screen, mudflap pizzas, the Saturday sauna down at the lake, partying at Marko's house eating reindeer and playing House of the Dead 2,  loads of fun.

Big, big thanks to Aaro, Marko and Samuli for organising the whole thing (and for inviting me)!  A top little festival and one that everyone from diabolo.ca should try and put in their diaries for next year.

Donald (busy destroying his living room with 4 corner vertax.....)

Donald summed it all up pretty well, but I'd like to add a few things.

First of all the guests were a LOT more talkative than in the previous years, which was a major highlight for me! Also most workshops were really interesting. I too am working on Marko's four point vertax. Langerz's workshop was too damn confusing to remember anything from! But seriously huge respect for the slack knowledge you have! Donald's workshops were loads of fun. He even taught us my new favorite trick: the CLAW!

The 400m vertax was a pain in the ass, but it did prove me that I really have to work on my vertax technique. I was quite happy to win the untangle though. Langerz's knot wasn't so bad after all!

The gala show wrapped up the convention nicely. My highlights were Tommi's, Marko's and Donald's performances.

Big thanks to everyone who attended!

All ages. I'm not sure how many show up, but probably around 30 - maybe less this year. Hopefully more people show up next year!

There's been a huge boom in schools. Many kids from 10-15years have become obsessed
about diabolo. Last week almost all Finesses were sold out in the whole country. Some of
shops are selling more than they can get. Well that might also be because they don't buy
that many diabolos in the first place... Anyway, the boom also affects the festival. So there
are lot's of 12-16year olds there. But like we say it we are no kindergarten so if one comes to
festival he has to take care him- or herself. Also there are some older people 17-40 around.
Those would be the organization team, performers and people who take it seriously. I think there's
something for everybody. Also every year the people get one year more.

Many people doing diabolo at different levels. Look in to the gym and 90% will juggle diabolo.
That's the way we like it. ;)
