Getting finesse nuts unstuck
« on: June 14, 2008, 05:37:50 AM »
I've noticed that the nuts on finesses (G3, but probably G2 and G1 also), the ones that attach the washer and everything, have a tendency to become jammed on the piece inside the axle. Its kind of hard to describe.

The silver metallic nuts, when tightened, seem to become permanently fastened onto the central fastener

Is there a way to undo this? I used the nuts for one of my hybrids, and i need to change back to stock for 2d, but the nuts have become stuck on the fastener, which is not stock

Best way (no risk of damage) is to get 2 standard nuts - screw them on the other end and tighten them together against each other which will lock them on the bolt.  Then you can hold the 2 nuts with a spanner whilst you undo the offending item.

Or you can just hold the bolt in a drill chuck or vice - but this way you risk damaging the thread.

this is assuming that the nut is really really stuck, right?
I'll try it, but the lock on the 2 nuts has to be stronger than the lock with the finesse nut

I have a sort of similar problem with my sun and having a light kit stuck one one end of the bolt, I've managed to bust the light kit so I want to change back to the original hologram washers but I can't get one half of the light kit off the axel.

Can I apply the two nuts thing to that situation somehow?
