VotW: 27 October 2008: The Void

It's time for the s-fan of the week! Today we have an oldie but a goodie from The Void - a start that may help those of you just learning the s-fan, and an exit that will give a few of you a challenge.

I'm pretty sure I saw this last year and had heard about it way before that. No matter though, a quality exit and pretty tricky to get working right.

When I first wanted to learn the s-fan, about 4? years ago, and after I'd worked out that it was "one diabolo on each side of the string", these were the entrance and exit that occurred to me. The exit was a lot more ropey than the entrance, and at the time I was concentrating more on running/correcting the actual s-fan than sorting out the exit. After a while, I saw Fanman's pop exit, and adopted that instead (since it was essentially the same as my exit, but without any of that tricky underarminess). I only recently started having another go at the underarm exit, with a view to VOTW-ing it. It's still far from solid, but I'll work on it some more now, and look forward to seeing where you lot take it.

Reminds me of the Void's memorable entry to the rec.juggling collab video a few years ago, except with this exit he could walk backwards through the frame.

I was playing with this a bit more tonight, and I got it a lot more solid. The knack is to point the darkside stick more backwards and downwards to stop the diabolo from flying too far forwards. Probably an obvious thing to say, but I only just worked it out, and it might help someone.
