The Bandai version stopped production in about 2005.  I dont think the true Bandai's ever had "yoho" on them - they had "Hyper Diabolo DIABIG" on the cups and plain washers (or at least mine do).  The AUS made Yoho's are not even close to the Japanese version in terms of quality IMHO.

Yup that is correct what nev writes. No mention of Yoho anywhere on the real Diabigs and they´re still my favorites (even though they´re no longer made :'(). I thougt 2006 since ejc06 they had stopped stocking them and Naranja ran out at exactly that time, but nev as a seller would probably know better. Could be they still had leftover from halting the production.

Interesting, I didn't realize it was that long ago. Is that why we saw the emergence of the Fly/Sun?

Sort of - I was looking for some of the old transparent diabigs I'd seen on diarythm at the time http://www.diarhythm.com/trick2/1.jpg.

nev, the ones you mention was the type that existed before the ones sold at around 2005. I wanted some of those old type in translucent limegreen but at that time the only japanese store I found were not willing to ship internationally :(.

Some of those types were even limited as well (like the Flys), don´t know if the ones in the pic were or not.

Oh man, those pictures of transparent diabolos have existed in diarythm since 2000 or like 01.
Remember watching them and thinking that they looked cool. That's like 100 years in life of diabolo and dogs. Surprised actually that the whole diarythm site is actually still up...

^^ yes I know the transparent diabigs were "limited" and not readily available since about 2003 I think - I just remember trying to find some in late 2005 - no luck of course.  I've researched my dates a bit more and the regular bandai diabig stopped stopped in early 06 but some shops still had them till late 2006.

edit - sorry, this is going way off topic now

I'm split between flys and my new found love for circus. Concrete play is such a plus.

Ben from MJC has crystals that looked like a dirty window covered in pond scum, blended in with the floor so I had no idea what was happening with my 3 low.. I loved them.

I whole-heartedly change my vote to the light suns. After going a couple weeks and 1 convention with nothing but my circuses I missed the smooth as butter, ultra forgiving, look so sleek goodness of my Suns more than I ever imagined possible. I take back anything negative I ever said about these things. First day practicing with them when I got back, after struggling to throw start 3 circuses all weekend, I threw a clean 3d pirouette and my first ever 3d suicide. I just wish they didn't have to be transparent. Yes they look oh so cool, but sometimes you just want normal looking opaque diabolos. Taibolos come a close second - I'd settle for them any day.

Now that my wrists are doing better, I may try my hand at regular suns with plastic washers again. A little bit extra stability, rotational inertia, and opaqueness sounds appealing.

You're like a genie in a bottle granting my every wish. Well you now... Sometimes my credit card doesn't want my every wish granted damnit! :)

Is this going to be a thing of the future in a full color set or just a small scale thing?

While we're at it, now that you've had some time to play with both, how would you describe the differences between the 255g and the regular model? Obviously one is a bit heavier and will spin a bit longer, but: How is the feel? Is one noticeable more stable than the other? Are they both as smooth? How similar is the material? Is one more durable than the other?

--
And on an unrelated note, in Quebec city at TurboFest, just about everybody was using circuses with giant hubs. And I do mean just about everybody. Take off Jacob, myself, 1 or 2 sets of finesses, and the occasional metal hubbed circus, it was all giant hubs as far as the eye could see. Interesting how you get pockets of certain gear affiliations like that. I was the only one with regular width POM circus hubs.

At the moment only black and white in the opaque 255g cups - not sure about the future - depends on demand I guess.

I haven't played with a full metal washer 290g Sun for a long time as I find them too heavy.  I don't remember them feeling much different - a bit longer spin time.
The plastic washer 275g feels very much like the stock 255g ones though.  The cup material seems to be the same only a bit thinner on the 255g ones and the hubs / axles etc are exactly the same.
The above is mostly from memory as my 255's currently have black axles and LED's fitted so they are actually 260g and smoother/slippier on the string.

Its possible to get the weight of the 255's down to 220 if needed.

My favorite diabolo is the original Sun cups with Plastic washers and black alu teflon axles - 260g.
The closest stock diabolo is the 255g Sun so that got my vote over the original Sun.

he isn't the only one. ;)
can't believe its not butter

Sorry that I've to explain my previous words, maybe i shouldnt use the word "vote"(is like will influence others making decision)..
BUT,myself uses them for a period of time...and found that this model are pretty good,well-balance,lighter weight that suit for girls or those who prefer lighter version. :-D
Is really an awesome new model from sundia with amazing transparent shell colours..does anyone agree with me?
