Requiem for a Diabolo
« on: February 02, 2009, 11:32:59 AM »
Hello folks,

this is my new diabolo stage routine "Requiem for a Diabolo".
You shouldn't expect some hardcore tricks in it, because I wanted to create the routine as minimalistic as possible. It was something new to me to create such an act for an audience, because I did the standard Diabolo acts in the past.
The routine was presented to an audience during our third show in school at the end of January 2009.

The recordings are produced by some Consumer-Camcorders. To my mind the did a great job with so difficult lighting conditions.

I hope I can give you an idea, what was important to me, by playing an creating this act.

Enjoy, Carsten

I didn't know JiBe had a grown-up son.

The ''vibe'' of the performance was pretty nice!

I thought I was weird thinking a bit of JiBe while seeing this. Guess I'm not after all ^^

Very very nice performance. Although the tricks weren't very original, the combos had something refreshing to them. Smooth and good looking  :)
And the rythm of the movements are perfect, not too slow nor too fast.
Good job!

Nice movement and great quality / editing. Those camcorders did indeed do a good job.

I've totally forgotten that JiBe did an act with a mask like this several times ago. It was on the Diabology DVD wasn't it?
But it is always a pleasure to be compared to him:-).

@ Ethan: The eyeholes are bigger than you might think at the first time ;). After the mask was send to me I was really surprised that it was that easy to play Diabolo with it.

I *think* Norbi used to perform to that tune, I've been trying to find some footage of his act as you might find it useful to see how another diaboloist approaches it.

Oh that would be really nice to see Norbi performing to "Lux Aeterna":-).

Regardless of what might have gone before, I enjoyed that.  It's always cool to see someone putting some serious thought into what their tricks actually look like.

Also, respect for getting through the whole routine without having the mask fall off and mess the whole thing up.  Not all of us have been so lucky.   :embarassed:

You did a good job with the performance!
I just don't like you are using this music because diabolumberto was already using it and I think if you have no chance of any face expression you should try to express much more with your body to interact with the audiance...

It's a lovely looking act, great contrast.  Though I'm not quite sure I'm getting the feeling you're trying to get across (if there is one).

I've seen Norbi have a ring routine with this piece of music, and a video of Diabolumberto titled "Soirée Cabaret Pele-Mele a Clerieux" on 25/11/2005.  Sufficed to say it is not a bad track.  Is this for other jugglers or the general public?  Because I think you can stick with it for the latter.

@Chiok: This act was mainly created for a non-juggling audience.
I had totally no idea that this music was used by Norbi and Diabolumberto.
I chose the mask, because I wanted to get the whole act as minimalistic as possible.
To use more body interaction is a very good point and I will try to make that if this act will be performed the next time.

I personally liked how minimalistic this routine was. The pace was perfect and I like how simple everything seemed. Nice flow and smooth control. Good work!
