No they are all the softer cups, the sample ones I had a while back had hard plastic cups like the fly, but the new marble ones are in the same softer material as the clear ones.  - All the "shining" colours are made of the softer sun type material for much better scratch resistance and overall durability.

Actually the marble ones are supposed to sell for more than the clear (as they cost more to make), but I cut the price to be the same as the clear for the time being, so I can evaluate which is more popular on a level playing field.

News flash! You can switch the cups/flip the axle around! :)

If you look through http://diabolomoves.co.uk/ you'll see that the (original) Flys are still being sold just the same. Yes, Nev has said the cups are interchangeable. The Fly weight is 275g, the Shining weight is 280g. They include a slightly wider axle so I'm not sure how much of the weight difference is in the cups. Not much if anything. Nothing noticeable I'd assume. If you want to make them a tad lighter you could wait for the teflon coated aluminum axles, which, if I remember correctly will save you 10 grams. Again, not a huge amount. 270-280 grams is a reasonable fairly standard weight though.

I think josh is referring to the "old" 2006 fly cups from back when the fly's shipped with metal washers - these were thinner, harder and about 24g lighter.  No longer on sale, but I'll see if there are any still "lying around" anywhere for you.

With those cups (if I can still get any) and the black axle (which saves 15g over the metal) you could get the weight down to around 240g.

Funny you should ask. The triple bearing makes 2 diabolo vertax easy. Impossible with a single set of bearings though.[nb]s-a-r-c-a-s-m[/nb]

OK so I've had these a while, but only just got around to putting them online........
The Shining is now available in triple bearing (both silver axle 280g and black alu axle 265g versions), single bearing (exactly the same bearing axle as the Fly - so basically a Fly with nice cups) and also in a fixed axle version.

click on the pics for more info

I've also had some nice new blue and black string for a while (the black has sold really fast so is almost out already - sorry)

I bought a green triple bearing 265g shining at the bjc and it went straight into my show as a 1d light diabolo with one of the the new rainbow kit's[the kit is suprisingly bright for just one LED].

A triple is three times as good as a single?

Basically they have ironed out the flaws [opinion] of the original fly.

The cups are much less likely to get shredded due to their more Sun Esq quality. The noise that some people like and some people hated from the fly has been reduced massively and it's a nicer sound. In terms of spin time I haven't noticed a massive leap [they definalty spin longer] but I like to keep my diabs spinning relatively fast so other users may gain more from this feature.

As the price indicates this is a quality prop.

happy to answer any questions as a semi impartial shining user

Hello, I very new to the diabolo, the ones I have now are the Yo Ho Superspins, they are OK, IMO...but I tried my friends FLY and WHAT a difference...I have to get some FLYIES...BUT then I saw the triple bearing and although I have not used them I was considering them.  I will be using this to train A LOT and wanted to know about wear and tear...any opinions on what I should buy? Thank you

I have been following this diabolo for a long time as I really want a bearing diabolo, but I cannot wait any longer in silence. I know Nev sells them at a great price, but I don't think I could afford the shipping as I live in the United States. Does anyone know of a place I could get a shining diabolo stateside? Or should I wait some more or just simply settle for the sundia fly?

i dont want to sound hateful or anything, but at the moment a shinning fly from nev is almost 80 dollars and i dont know about shipping from him, i like nev and his shop and have ordered from him, its just that the dollar is too weak right now

Shadebob i can say that buying from nev is great, but if you want a US option like Ive been looking for i found this guy on ebay his store name is diabolo world, i havent ordered from him yet so i cant  tell you any experience but his prices are good, at least dollar wise and the shipping is 9.99 dollars airmail not sure if thats per diabolo or package here is the link to his store

Also you could try yoyosam.com they have the sundia shinnin also in both fixed and 3 bearing versions

Edit: added info

Apologies if this has already been clarified Nev, but could you let me know if the lighter black axle is also a wide axle? I was also wondering how good the Shining's are for learning 3.

Thanks,

Jem
