Finesses and Heat? (warped cups)
« on: May 28, 2005, 09:10:56 PM »
So, yesterday I forgot my diabolos (3 Finesse G1's) in a hot car all day.  When I remembered where I had left them, and got them out, I noticed they were a little softer than normal.  Not thinking anything about it, I started diaboloing.

Sadly, it seems that now, some of the cups are a little misshapen.  I suspect the heat made the rubber a little softer, soft enough to become misshapen.  Has this anyone else?  Any suggestions for what to do now?  Maybe I should just use this as an excuse to get some G2's?

I'm not sure if this will work with finesse but it used to work with the older babaches. if you put it in some arm water to soften it up again then it should(fingers crossed) go back to its original shape. have the water warm but not boiling

I've had my finesse go out of shape on me before now, They usually get back to shape after a while. If I recall corectly someone sugested leaving them out in the sun for a while.

I fixed a mishapen circus diabolo once with hot water. I think I read about it somewhere on rec.juggling. I stood the diabolo on end and poured nearly boiling water in the cup and let it sit for a few minutes.

Of course, if you're doing this with circuses, the heat conducts and the axles get very hot. Not that I would have discovered this.

Generally though, the cups reshape themselves over time. You may need to try rotating them to find the new best position.

The best way is stand the diabolo on end and pour almost boiling water in it, leave the diabolo alone and do not touch it until the water is cool. this should re-shape the cups
