1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
I've diaboloed for six months now, but I touched for the first time a diabolo about one year and a half ago.

2. What or who got you started?
I started after doing the animator at a summer camp: a friend of mine taught it there and so I tryed.

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I like the... magic. When you see someone diaboloing, it looks like the diabolo is suspended in midair, like it's magic. Same thing for devilsticks and juggling in general.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
Not so much... In my city mosquitoes are very widespread and after only thirty minutes outside diaboloing I can't stop to scratch.

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
No, I'm not so good.

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
No, I don't.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
I love my Harlequin Diabolo and my aluminium homemade sticks. I use yellow fluo string.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
I only know basic tricks with one diabolo... I haven't thought of two diabolos yet!

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
I don't have one, even if I enjoy the lift.

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
Uhm, I don't know.

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
The magic knot. I couldn't practice, so I've been tying to learn it for six months.

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
I don't know famous diabolist.

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
Well... I learned how to play the diabolo 6 or 7 years back, but have recently learned two and am willing to learn some more tricks ;) Can do quite a few with 1 diabolo, but no suicides or genocides or anything like that.

2. What or who got you started?
A Local Circusschool :)

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I'm more a Juggler really, but what I like about diaboloing is that it looks very cool while some tricks aren't very difficult, sometimes with juggling balls or clubs, people aren't as impressed, but if I start diaboloing I immideatly catch people's attention.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
I juggle around 2 - 4 hours a day, of which probably 30 minutes till an hour is diaboloing :)

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
I've performed with a diabolo once! However I like to perform with balls, rings and clubs more :)

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
Yep, I juggle 7 balls, 5 clubs and 6 rings, I also do flower sticks time to time.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
String: Henry's string
Sticks: The Aluminium Mr. Babache things.
Diabolos: Only have used Mr. Babache Arlequino's till now, and I'm not really that fond of them.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
Eh, since I've recently learned 2 diabolos, 2 diabolos.

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
Eh I think one of my Knot tricks into a Whip catch is probably my favourite ;)

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
I think that'd be a vertical genocide into a vertical whip catch :)

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
2 diabolo correction :P

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
Robin Spinelli, Judith and Brend mostly, and many others actually, but I only remember Robin's, Judith's and Brend's name haha.

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
I bought one earlier this year during the summer months after seeing a guy demo them and finding I could transfer some of my yoyo skills to it, but I've not used it lots.

2. What or who got you started?
A guy demonstrating circus skills at my kids' school. He had loads of diabolos along with other things and I picked it up and managed to get it spinning, a few high throw catches and some basic yoyo stuff a bit like yoyo trapezes or lindy loops.

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I like that it gives me something to do away from computers.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
So far, 0.

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
Nope.

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
I don't juggle but I do yoyo (mainly 1A but a little 5A and 4A) and speedcube. I've tried taking up juggling but haven't managed to find the time to even pick up the basics.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
Can't comment.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
I own 2, but only use 1 at a time.

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
I managed some kind of suicide once, which was fun.

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
I've seen Langers do diabolo on a yoyo video and it was crazy.

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
Any form of spin generating other than the basic one.

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
None at all.

Hello, I wanted to add some stuff. I took up yoyo as a cheap and entertaining way to get off of computers, which I use 8 hours a day at work then 8 hours a day at home. It turns out it is fun, but not as cheap as I had thought once you get collecting things. I've been doing about 2-3 years now although I'm pretty much stuck at the upper intermediate level.
As I said above, I saw a guy letting people try out diabolo (among other things) and found some of the yoyo skills seemed to transfer a little so bought myself a cheap £3 one from a store and played with it a bit over the summer. I'm planning to do the same this year but I may get a better diabolo and sticks but have no idea what to get, I'm thinking a G4 Finesse but don't know if bearings have caught on in diabolo as much as they have in yoyo.

Outside of skilltoys, I've spent the past 15 years as a software engineer, I'm married and have 3 kids.

Anyway, that's me.

Matthew.

Welcome! Bearings are quite used nowadays in diabolo and if you like yoyo tricks you can go for them. Although a bit old this post has tons of interesting reading about equipment: http://diabolo.ca/forum/index.php?topic=3.msg3#msg3

Hahaha, you`re speedcuber too, rarely, there are several diaboloist/jugglers who practice this two things :D

Hello !
Name: Jet
Location: Western Australia
Age: 17

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
13, although only really started about 6 months ago.

2. What or who got you started?
Was given one ages ago and just started playing.

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I mainly do diabolo and 3 ball/club juggling, but I find diabolo the most versatile - its movements seem to sometimes turn into devil sticks, poi, conventional juggling... seems nearly endless!

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
So far, I just have 2 blue MB Galaxies (and a really old yoho small one) with the sticks and string that came with the yoho (13 years still holding fairly well... it may be telling of how much I've used it over the years). The Galaxies are the only 'known' ones I have and know (and even then, they seem unknown), so I have nothing else to judge by. I recently made my own wooden sticks and used 2mm blinds string from the hardware store, and after a few tests, seems to be more effective than the string I've used in the past, they're now my main sticks.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
I'm developing my skills with 1, learning to start and correct 2... 3 is a long way off!

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
Just learnt how to genocide!

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
Currently learning the tomicide, with many bruises.

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
All the people and posts here on diabolo.ca!

Also, I'm a leftie. Super looking forward to meeting you all!  :)

Welcome August! I was living in Trondheim for 6 months. I can tell you that there is a juggling club in the NTNU where a guy plays with 2 diabolos. You may want to join them if you are willing to practice with somebody. Btw, in this video I recorded some years ago you can see some bits of Trondheim, might be curious/fun for you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCxa6GAkm5g

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
I started a few years ago but I quit for a long time, just getting back into it now! So altogether probably 2 years? Perhaps 3.

2. What or who got you started?
Saw some cool stuff at a summer camp, decided to try it for myself.

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
Learning new things.

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
It's pretty sporadic, but I practice when I can. Can't put a number on it.

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
I performed once and failed miserably but I'll be trying again soon hopefully.

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
I dabble in ball and cigar box juggling, but I'm really just a diabolo player.

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
This is a tough one. 35cm Taibolo sticks and white Taibolo string (I haven't tried many other types of string though). Favorite diabolo... probably Sundia Triple Bearing Fly and Sundia Shining fixed axle. I used to exclusively use Taibolo v2s but I've found that I like Sundia better, particularly the bearings. I've ordered the Sundia Icy which will hopefully be a good investment. Also will be trying out 35cm Sundia blue diamond carbon fiber sticks soon.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
1. Since I can't really do anything with 2 or 3 yet xD

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
Star trick, 2:07 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdhPICh-UEs Simple but cool, I think

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
In person? Probably some crazy vertax combo that I can't name. Online? There are too many to choose from, I think many of the tricks that I've seen are equally amazing!

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
A trick by William Lin (I posted about it in this forum haha) and some integral stuff.

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
William Lin (he was the first guy that I watched a video of), Hiroki Abe, Kobayashi Norifumi

Name: Olivier Belzile

1. How many years have you diaboloed for?
Started diaboloing at age 10-12, but I got seriously to it when I turned 17

2. What or who got you started?
I wanted to get into circus, and living in the countryside, I knew I had to pick a discipline I could learn by myself. I also liked to diabolo already

3. What do you like best about the diabolo or juggling in general?
I'm all about performance, I love creating an act for an audience and just give myself on stage. I like that I get to develop a relationship with my diabolo and share it with people

4. How many hours a day do you diabolo on average?
About 5 days a week, 2 hours a day, sometimes (read "often") less, if getting lazy or working on another discipline.

5. Do you ever perform with the diabolo?
Yes, I've been street performing a bunch, and also performed as part of my school program and at various events.

6. Do you juggle other props? If so: balls, clubs, rings, cigar boxes, devil sticks... ?
I do juggle balls and clubs, but I think I'm not good enough (I don't have my 5 props stable yet)

7. What are your favourite diabolos, sticks, and string?
I'm all about circus diabolos with giant axles. They're extremely stable for outside performances (windy), And I like feeling the weight of the diabolos for timing for certain tricks. I use play string because it is thinner and therefore safer for mini-genocides and variations (in my opinion). Sticks are Babache's aluminum to compensate for the diabolos' weight.

8. Do you like working with 1, 2, or 3 diabolos the best?
1 Diabolo. It gives more freedom for movement. I especially enjoy excalibur/vertax as it allows me to open the stage area and stop being so frontal.

9. What is your favourite diabolo trick that you can do?
Behind the head blind catches to lying down. When I get it right and a get a good suspension then let myself collapse on the floor, the feeling is greeeaaat. Plus, audiences love it. I what the audiences like, I like.

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?

11. What tricks are driving you nuts right now (what are you working on)?
Blind catches combos, and one trick I'm working on I'm not going to talk about before I get it stable enough to present on stage. Sorry, got to protect my creative stuff

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
Jeremy Arsenault, Tony Frebourg, Fellow ENC students Dominique Bouchard, Fabian Galouye,  Noah Nielsen, Johan Juslin, Felix Martin and Arata Urawa, Jean-Félix Bélanger from Quebec's Circus school, and every single Taiwan guy out there who just rock the diabolos

possibly suns, with an under feet 'jumprope' finish, or magic knot into whip catch, can't really choose, depends on the tempo of the music

10. What is the most amazing diabolo trick you've ever seen done?
seen some unreal, 'had to see to believe' stuff on youtube, but competence with two is enough to wow me

Genocides and variations of

12. What other diaboloists have inspired you?
There is a guy in London with some mad skills and i'm going to his workshop soon, he's my biggest inspiration atm, but i am looking for local spinners to me, so give me a message if you live in Northern England/South Scotland, i'll bring cake.... ;-)
