New Juggle Dream 'Cyclone' Triple Bearing??
« on: June 07, 2010, 01:48:32 PM »
I was just on oddballs.co.uk, and I saw that there's a new diabolo from Juggle Dream, who I've never even heard of....
Has anybody got one???
Opinions?

Interesting, looks like a fly axel with circus[ish] cups. I'm sure Nev will know.

The cups look a bit shiny to be a Jazz, no? Could be an artifact of the lighting — the shape looks about right. Definitely looks like Sundia guts. "Juggle Dream"? What's the fascination with weird company name rebranding in the juggling world? But, yeah, it's only 4.13 inches in diameter. Too small to be of stable use for most people. If this really is Jazz cups, why not do it with Circus cups? Probably to make the thing cheap I suppose.

Triple bearing Sundia guts on Circus cups? Now we're talking. That would be the perfect go anywhere bearing diabolo, albeit probably a tad wobbly.

Weight: 222gr
Cup diameter: 105mm
Diabolo width: 125mm
Axle width: 10mm

Says the website. I'm sure langerz would like to give it a go.

If those are rubbery cups, shouldn't we expect it to be a short lived diabolo?  As soon as those cups lose their initial rigidity, that thing will just wobble like mad at high speeds.

If they're hard plastic cups, then it shouldn't be too bad.

Edit: I'm also curious about Juggle Dream.  Is it just something to do with Oddballs?

Maybe a mainland china type deal, I notice the other new diabolo is a harlequin 'homage'.
I've seen knock off Circus, Jazz, Rubberking and Beach diabolos being offered by Chinese export firms.

http://www.passepasse.com/diabolo-nitro-speedfly-bearing-axle-p-2482.html looks like a similar type doodad, actually I think I had a go with one of these at the BJC, seem to recall the problem with wobble at speed occurring (but don't quote me on that as my memory is pretty hazy)

Langerz and Funty will probably know the score

Yeah it's pretty much a bearing jazz I think there'll be a larger version coming out too. I'll bring some to southern lights so people can try them out.

So are they actually Jazz cups or are they cups that are similar to the Jazz cups? And is Juggle Dream a Chinese firm as Seán_ wondered?

A couple of us got hold of these for 'testing purposes' and so far I've not had any major complaints, not played with it to much but I haven't noticed any wobble. The cups are pretty similair to that of a Jazz/Circus but a noticabley lesser quality, the feelof them just isn't as pleasent on the old finger tips as a Henrys. I haven't played with it to much at the moment so I'm not sure if over time they won't start to have the behavioural problems of an old school spinabolo.

Not to bad at all though considering the cost, we were led to understand that there will be a 5" model coming soon which could be quite interesting, although I'm not sure what the positive would be over purchasing a fly, apart from saving dolla'

Hmm. I'm a bit skeptical about the quality of the bearings considering the price is so cheap. Regardless, I wonder if the bearings would transfer into Fly / Shining cups?

The bearings seemed alright to be honest. Very quite. Just as dave said though, the quality of the cups was pretty poor. After not too use the cups got pretty scuffed up with some pretty big wounds. I think this would eventually lead to some stability issues but while I was using them they stayed pretty stable, even at high speeds. Over-all, they seemed like a good budget alternative for a triple bearing. Not sure about the compatability with other cups, the washer/ nut system seemed a bit weird but I never took them apart some its hard to say. Would be a pretty good way to go though if you could whack the axle on some nicer cups.

Hey all,

I got two of these ones from Oddballs 1,5 months ago. Basically I've had plenty of time to test it. I really don't want to trash any other companies who make out new products. But, there are some problems with this model. I'm sitting here in EJC besides Jürgen comparing this diabolo to Henry's Jazz and as said before the cup looks exactly the same as Jazz cup. Also as you can see from first look the axle setup is also copied but from Sundia.

Pros
-Cheap bearing diabolo, which doesn't break easily due to rubbery cups
-no wobble

Cons
-Axle is not identical, if you leave the diabolo spinning on the string it will start to turn on it's own. The flaw in axle is visible for plain sight.
-Oddballs reported that the diabolos are prone to unwinding itself and in the end falling in the pieces.

I've seen these same diabolos in passepasse stand so apparently somebody else uses the same factory in china as oddballs. Anyways if you want triplebearing for cheap money go a head. But it won't be perfect, yet. I hope they will fix the problems for the second run of those...

I got a couple of these and I have to say for the price, they're pretty darn good. The axles seem good, a bit slippy (I think that's just because I haven't played a bearing for about a year). They do seem to untighen a fair bit, but I can just retighten them (and I'll put some Teflon tape on the threads, to keep it tight). All in all, fairly good diabolo :)
