Diabolo Turning Right!?!
« on: August 24, 2010, 11:59:16 AM »
So today I got a Sundia Sun Diabolo in the post. I already know how to diabolo pretty well but it constantly turns to the right.
Why?

Well does it have a long axle? That could be a difference with you're earlier diabolo's.
It could also be a issue with the diabolo and in that case you could send an e-mail to the distributor.
If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

If the diabolo turns to the right (clockwise?) and thats what you Don't want, than i assume you are right handed.
Either you have a sundia fly with the wrong hub colour towards you.
or you have a backstring
or you're accelerating with your left hand.

I've experienced in the past suns that just won't stay straight (very frustrating when you're doing 2 or 3).  It could be that the cups are weighted slightly differently (just a couple of grams will mean they do nothing but turn with no fault of your own).  For example, when I got black and white suns, I immediately mixed the colours because it was a nice contrast, but then their balance was way off (constant turning, like what you seem to be describing) just because the cups of different colours were weighted differently.

I think Dodson said something to me about this, and he says that you get into it afterwards and develop a technique to avoid them from turning (at least i think it was Dodson :-X)

i am pretty sure that precession in that direction means that you need to add weight to the cup away from you, or take weight off the cup near you. i had this issue and found that various washers helped get rid of the issue

it ought to if the excess weight is on the opposite cup. i know it can because i had lots of back and forth on one of mine before i got it right, but i cant remember off the top of my head where the extra weight is for which turning direction. i think its:
far cup heavier = turns right, add weight to near cup to fix
near cup heavier = turns left, add weight to far cup to fix
i just messed up cup weights and that is the conclusion that i came to
and for lefties, it is backward

i think i know where you're getting at, it cant only turn right unless you make sure you use it the same way each time (like never turning the diabolo 180 degrees)
can't believe its not butter

would be more technique then and possible wide axle

I was there when Duncan's turned and I'm happy that was a weight thing.
